| There are a lot of positives to take from last nights game in terms of commitment and effort.
I hope the team will learn a lot from last nights game in terms of playing wet weather rugby. we were dragged into touch a couple of times, couple of risky offload and a few uncharacteristic errors.
I was surprised that considering how light we were in the pack that Russell did not start the game. I like Thewlis and think he will have a big future here but we have had a real lesson in the last 2 weeks whereby Wigan and Catalans 3/4 have gained at least 10 metres on every carry. Matautia and Ashton were pretty good in that department (apart from a couple of rare errors from matautia) but in games where we are light in the pack and need some go forward I would pick Russell over Thewlis every day.
Thewlis did nothing wrong, just Russell's Carrie's eat up more metres and usually result in a quick PTB that we really needed last night.
Also a little bit disappointed in the use of Lucas Green. I think he got 10 mins in that first half and nobody would give him the ball. I think he had 0 carries. If we are introducing players like that my feeling is that he needs to be alongside players full of energy that can cover for him not after 25 mins when they are starting to lose energy, I would have put him on from the start alongside a fresh Vaughan, Maguire and walker and given him 10-15 mins and then let Kassiano replace him.
All good though and a couple of extra forwards to rotate and learn some lessons and another game like that might end up with a different result.
Full credit to Wigan though. They are very well drilled

We won’t be short at the back end.
To win SL you need 2 packs, we won’t be short. We had some bad fortune, but it can be easily managed very soon.
Can’t see us loosing another game, but I did see that coming last night.

| Clear momentum for that first try. Think all video refs were understandable but he rushed them all, like he was on the clock. The second try could at least have been looked at from another angle. Same for the Vaughan knock on. He should have checked side on to see if it went backwards (it didn’t).
Definitely a positive performance considering everything. Imagine what the score would have been last season with so many props out or even under Price.

You really need to look up the term humility, Duckie...
You were actually predicting we'd be 10 wins out of 10, yet, without a shred of shame, you now claim to have seen last night's loss coming...
No doubt after our next loss, you will have conveniently forgotten about this latest nonsense prediction of not losing another game?

| I haven't seen any replays or video ref decisions but Wigan laid a marker down early on with their first try . We had the age old problem of being on the back foot for most of the game as Wigan played front foot rugby & there must have been at least 80% of the game played in our half. Wigan were making big yards on their sets of six ,we were not. Perhaps the lads were knackered after Catalans or we were short on forwards but i think they probably did well to contain the result to a 7 point defeat. Maybe the team need to be coached though into playing the game within the same rules that others get away with stretching to put opponents under pressure.

I'm not convinced - player wasn't running at any particular pace when he took the ball and made the pass, it was a poor call from ref & touch judge not to see it travelling forwards from the line it was passed on to where it was received.
But hey, you just have to roll with the onfield calls and hope they balance out over the season.
Wigan were the better team, got the rub of a couple of the decisions, and overall deserved to win - we got credit for hanging in there under immense pressure and had a couple of calls gone our way we could have sneaked a win.

| Some terrible decisions last night, but we'll hopefully get the same help in future games where opposing fans will feel hard done to. That's the reality of refereeing standards & the 'Try/No Try' rule in SL.
Warrington had there worst performance so far this season and lost to the 2nd placed team in the league by 7 points. Wigan dominated the game and only won by 7.
If we can limit a quality team to such a low score while playing badly it's hardly an end-of-the-world scenario.

| Quote: wire2004 "It's OK dita. I'll bite on this one.
1st one. Wigan 2nd try. No control over the grounding.
2nd one. Warrington 1st no try. Explain how Vaughan touched the ball when the ball went back. Either Vaughan tipped the ball back. Or the Wigan player touched the ball forward. Both would be play on and a try. The ball was travelling backwards. In all replays.
3rd one. Words fail me on that last no try. I don't even know what was wrong with it.
There's 3.'"
1) It's control because the ball never leaves his hand. It's been the rule for over a decade. Do catch up. If that had been a Warrington "no try" you'd have been whining about "corruption".
2) The ball went "back" because Vaughan knocks it on to Marshall. It doesn't go back, it goes forward off Marshall but the initial knock on was by Vaughan.
3) The ball is lost and ends up under his body. Unlike the Wigan one (which ironically you're moaning about) the connection between hand and ball is lost. However, had it gone up as a try, I'm sure it would have been given. Those decisions happen nearly every game. It's a consequence of the on field try/no try which I agree should be abandoned.
One other point (not from your post): All those moaning about how long Wigan were allowed in the tackle clearly aren't familiar with the rules. Listen to the match commentary and you can clearly hear the referee calling "surrender" on practically every Warrington set. That's a consequence of Wigan's dominant defence. Warrington got the same consideration on the few times they were dominant. Don't complain if your team is dominated. Let's leave that to Saints fans hey?
Edit: Apologies. Just seen these points have been covered. Time at the ruck is still relevant though.

We were munched for position by a better pack, and a quality kicking game from Harry Smith.
Looking ahead, despite only a 7 points loss against Wigan with only 1 prop out, and nobody else to come in, they are pretty much where they are, Wigan won’t get much better than that…
Whereas Wire have got another 3/4 gears to come back yet.
Harrison Bullock Dudson Philbin.
Who out of the 2 coaches with feel most comfortable about the coming weeks?'"
We have Smithies to come back into that pack and lost Singleton after just a few minutes of that game so pretty much played with the same number of props as Warrington did. We also have Harvey Hill to come in and will probably be looking at bringing in a mid season signing given the Cooper injury.
To suggest we "are where we are" (sic) when we have Field out and are running with a backrower in the halves is ludicrous! If you mean in the pack, are you seriously suggesting that Superleague's top tackler who regularly returns over 100 metres would have no impact on our defence or go forward? That's before you consider playing the entire game an interchange down?
Have a word with yourself Duckie.

Just to emphasise the squad depth problem, Wigan reserves are currently beating Wire by 74-10 at Vicky Park !

The way some of your fans have been going on, I thought Wigan played your reserves last night.

I always put a Wire win on here. I’ve nowt to lose so what’s the point in putting them down for a loss, why do you think I finish near bottom of the prediction league last season and through C19.
I did see it coming and I’ve £25 going on tomorrows game because of the results…. But I’ll still say a Wire win.

I’m not sure what you were watching, but given the pack available and conditions I thought we played a backs to the wall game extremely well. Quite what change in game plan you were expecting is a mystery. As to us being “sheeyite” I would suggest you are either clueless *or a Saints fan.
* on the basis that I wonder what your definition of us last season was.

oh right, cover all bases, I like it
You're basically the bloke who backs 15 or 20 horses in the Grand National and then, when your horse wins, you tell everyone what a great horse tipster you are...
