| I did say IF he has slipped down the pecking order, I think most people see obriens contract extension and the signing of wheeler, supposedly a natural 6 (though no ones seen him on a pitch long enough to tell) puts pressure on mylers place.
Personally I don't think there's anything in it but the poster who says he would be daft to leave wire to play regular rugby is assuming smith is going to pick him every week, which may or may not be the case, no player worth their salt though wants to be on a trophy winning squad if they re not playing, these are professional players not fans

| We could well see Myler flourish this season off the back of Clark's running.
if Clark makes plenty of breaks, there is a good chance Myler will score lots of tries.

| As fantastic as that may be. Unless O'Brien really steps up, we'll still be looking flat and lost attacking wise. The backs really do need to be standing a lot deeper with a halfback organising the plays. O'Brien is our best chance, Myler just isn't that sort of player. He's being made to play in a certain way and that's just not him. Clark makes good yards and plays hooker in a similar fashion to Higham, but we can't have a hooker scooting and giving a little tip on to a halfback, fullback or loose as our only attacking option. I think defensively we are solid and have been for some time. We just need players to be slightly more organised and hittingthe right lines.

At last, someone sees the obvious.
Not to have Myler in the side, while Clark has been bought, would be suicide.
I can see us getting back to our 2011 "scoring tries for fun" brand of rugby.

100% this.
For me its what Mylers game as always been about, its why he looked good along side Briers and hopefully can feed off Clark

| I find myself shaking my head at the thought of backlines being told to stand deeper, the dated idea of a deep backline has long gone, and rightly so, in favour of multiple pass selection structures.
Where we faulted last season was with a limited number of options, the second man 'Hodgson' play was of nil reward, whereas seasons prior, 2011 especially, I'd bet 25% of our tries came from one of those plays.
Warrington simply need to find a way of finding the edges effectively, either Russell improving in this area, using Ratchford at FB or potentially using a more pivotal loose forward, Grix or Ratchford.

I thought Mark Roberts was at his sensational best when running into a gap from a short ball off Andy Gregory's shoulder. These passes tended to be pretty flat from recollection.

He ran from deep though IIRC. His most devastating runs were timed to perfection for the Gregory runaround move we used to do. He wasn't taking it flat at a standstill / slow pace as we have exhibited.
Some of those set moves we had back then under Barrow and Johnson were almost 40m deep.

| I loved how Brian Johnson would effortlessly arch passed defences with his long stride gliding runs.
His pace was so deceiving.

| Danny Lima ran from deep, doens't make it right.
The concept is that a ball player has multiple options. The days of a prop forward sprinting out of the line to plant one on a half back are behind us, therefore the spaces don't open up for the inside pass/scissors as much. Yes they do present themselves with a lazy defender and or a poor defensive read, but the game is far more advanced, and structured than that, like it or not. The hours spent on video analysis to work out a defensive 'shape' dictates that it's harder to make a break.
Wigan score more tries than most, typically because their process is stronger. The lead runner and the sweep behind is a number manipulation move, trying to draw a bad read from a defender, so halves don't necessarily break down defences much any more, simply hold on for a defender to do something wrong.
I loved the old days of a nimble scrum half jinking past a couple of forward and picking out a runner, but it's just not today's game.

Stoosh was an outstanding album. Really liked Weep as well as Hedonism. It didn't appear on that album, but Search and Destroy was also brilliant.
