| To be fair, it’s a try. In the real world, if he goes to the screen, it’s given. However... we don’t live in the real world. It would have gone up as no try, and Thaler would have scratched around for a way to disallow it (see Lineham for evidence)
I’d be upset if it went against me, I’d be fuming if it was a last minute winner ruled out. But will 77 minutes on the clock and no immediate reaction (we didn’t go down the other end and score), it’s pathetic.
Let’s face it, if the wingers put the ball down and Coote puts over the conversions it’s a draw. They had more than enough chances to take the game but didn’t execute. Publicity stunts don’t drop the ball over the line

| I disagree that it was a try. The only photographic evidence I've seen from the blind side indicates that Knowles little finger is in contact with the side of the ball. Consequently, that tells me that there was no downward pressure on the ball, hence: no try.

...and no control. I'm with you. Hicks was Johnny on the spot.
No try

On the other hand & as we all know, these video refs have their own interpretation of downward pressure as we have seen against us in the past, but ok for our opponents. Any ref whether on the pitch or in front of a tv screen is liable to come up with different decisions to cover the same scenario. As i see it ,the problem is referee consistency.
The incident happened right in front of us & Knowles looked to have lost control of the ball.

I’ve seen far worse given as tries, with Sky bleating about downward pressure and the next minute saying a fingertip is sufficient.
In the long run, who cares? They finally didn’t get the rub of the green, they’ve had plenty over the years, so they can go love themselves.

| Touching the ball while on the ground is a try, if it goes up as a try. So long as there’s no separation. If it was the other way round, the majority on here would be claiming a try.
Downward pressure is a Stevo-ism.

| Quote: Saddened! "Quite. It's a real shame this happened and detracted from the true stories of the day, namely Warrington's performance and Saints continued inability to play well in big games. We certainly aren't a champion team, just a consistently good one.
But anyone who believes the reaction to Hicks' error is unique to Saints are wrong. You lot find it hilarious as it happened to us, so does the rest of the league, but almost every fan would be severely annoyed if that went against them in a final. You aren't telling me you'd be fine with it if Philbin gets to one at OT and it's smugly waved away by Thaler and Wigan go on to win the GF. People over react, it's passion, it's the reason we watch sport because of the emotions it stirs, it's what sports fans do.'"
You’re right. We all over react to the refs because we’re passionate about the game. I noticed I got less annoyed when watching on TV and realised there’s probably times I get angry and the ref, with a much better view than me, actually made the right call.
And sometimes fans go much too far. Throwing things on the pitch or, like that Warrington fan, issuing death threats.
But the thing that sets this situation apart is the fact that a senior, official representative of Saints has trivialised the death threat situation. That’s not okay.

Spot on BW.
The problem I have with Saints' reaction is that it's not only the fans, your average Joe, I can accept that, we would going mad on here, it's their supposed 'top man'...they should be embarrassed

| A big complaint was the officiating at the ruck, I'd love the rfl to come back with a list of every time we should have had a penalty for hands on when we were playing the ball or yards stolen by saints when they were playing the ball or tackled. They pushed the limit to what they got away with.
We were the better team, it was basic but it was carried out with a ruthless determination, high completion rate, play for territory, our defence was incredible to keep a side as good as saints out. I know that bryson Goodwin tackle won't ever get the same recognition as Danny Houghtons on currie even though goodwins effort was far, far better. They lost their belief and started to panic moving the ball around and making errors. They were patient in our league games, they were confident that we would break and their game plan was to really put us on the back foot and shatter out belief when they got their noses in front, it worked each time and I really think they turned up believing that the same outcome would happen, we would break and the floodgates open. Trouble for them is that we didn't break and us completing sets and finding grass with the kick gave them a lot to do on their sets. As it turned out too much to do and then for a change we broke them when it mattered. It was complacency on their part that led them to believe that they could turn up and we would wilt, I can only assume they mustn't have considered any other scenario as they didn't seem to have a plan B.

Always said that the occasion, game intensity and unique pitch of Wembley...will catch you out if you're not 100% fit.
Saints carried at least 3 unfit players and made 19 errors...that would floor any team into defeat.
After near 20 years of the upper hand over Wire....to accuse Hicks and Wire as the reason Saints got defeated is shathousery.
McManus is bitter and twisted in thoughts.

| He's went back to the St Helens Star, yesterday, and he's STILL singing from the same hymn sheet.
He's basically the dick head in the pub, gobbing off to anyone who'll listen, that the girl he had his eye on, has run off with another fella. His mates HAVE backed him up, and now THEY must be getting a bit embarrassed by his ramblings.
Time to let it go, Eammon. Move on, lad. You've other battles to bokkle

| I hope Thaler gets the GF and we stuff them again.
We await the next barrage of excuses.
