Perhaps...but Price still called it right. Had the confidence and nerve to ride the critics of the first 40.
Give the bloke credit when he earns it.
I'm the first to dish it if they haven't.

| I thought Burrell had a good game, looking a lot fitter than last year. Ashton and BMM also had good games. We need to smarten up to the new play the ball rules though. Not a great game, we did win but it looked a bit clunky.

| Thought Burrell looked good in the back row. Ashton MoM for me though.

| Good to see some enthusiasm in the team & some decent handling. Salford came to be competitive & it produced a very entertaining game. I think Ashton would be wasted stuck on the wing, there is a lot more to his game ,he gets stuck in. The new ,leaner Burrell did nothing wrong & Sita & BMM did more minutes than normal. Gelling did some good running apart from a couple of handling faux pas.
I could imagine this new holding down rule causing some problems for teams this season ,with team warnings & yellow cards galore.Kendall was loving it & pinged us with relish at every opportunity.

| Good to see the armchair critics out in force.
Anyway the big positives tonight were Matty Ashton who looked terrific and BMM who seemed to want to get through a lot of work.
Negatives were the lack of movement off the ball particularly in the opponents 20m and the utter lack of involvement of Ben Currie.
Summary; No idea what to expect in 2020

| I think you're being a little unkind on Currie. He was working hard in defence and attack but sadly that star quality was still missing.

| Still a bit rough but there are shoots of promise in us at least having worked on moves going forward I think that we scored some good trys. Early on was a worry they were pinning us back in defence and making ground with the ball.
Ashton had a very good debut put himself about and made some good tackles. I think burrell looked more like a rugby league player his tackling technique is better and he has the strength to get the ball free.
Gelling and Charney need more time he was looking for an offload but Charney was always there for flat pass which was mot on.
Looks like we will grow into the season as players regain fitness and we get some ganes together

| Matty Ashton was awesome, BMM was a handful as usual and played about 60+ minutes. Gelling had a couple of errors but puts the turbo's going forward did more good than bad. Burrell had a great game, couple of good barnstorming runs with an offload with one, got a ball steal and scored a try running full pelt on an angled run, he was excellent. Nobodys mentioned him but Danny Walker was brilliant, played like a little Daryl clark was a constant threat through out the game. Currie played well, put alot of work in defensively and was running lines and seems to have found a side step again, he played better then i've seen him in awhile. Jason Clark and Matt davis were ok but again they're good defensively but i'd still pick Davis over clark any day and don't think Clark is worth a quota sput to be honest.
Austin and Ratchford were good together and much much better than Patton and Austin, and yeah Ratchfords kicking was brilliant.

Well if Ashton, Burrell & Danny Walker are worthy of a place in the team it looks like our squad is suddenly much stronger and might look quite a bit different from last year.

| Good to see Ashton doing well. He tore the championship apart last year for Swinton. The kids rapid!! One of those players who got you on the edge of your seat when he got the ball. Obviously it's a massive jump up from semi-pro rugby to a team challenging for SL honours, but I think you've got a good kid on your hands there.
Think Swinton picked him up from amateur rugby (though I could be wrong)
