| I've never heard anyone with a bad word to say about Greg and his lovely family, on or off the field. Everybodys mate and straight down the middle with everyone.
As far as I am concerned the fund raising goes on. Need to help support the family to pay for the experimental drugs he was on.
A statement about the dinner will be made soon. The "Doin' it for Bluey" tee shirts are on sale at the shop or from me.
We look after our own

| Top bloke had the great opportunity to play a game of football with him up at Stretton one day. He had organised a kids dads game of football. I was asked to help make the numbers up, but he was a top bloke couldn't have been nicer..........he was like a big kid himself playing soccerball...!!
in Wire Colours (and Hull) a superb player and leader.
Rest in peace...

| Quote: Rocky Bobby "So long, Bluey. I never knew of a player who made SUCH an impact the first time he donned the primrose and blue. A Wire great.'"
3 September 1989
Basking in the Wigan sunshine, Mackey (along with Mark Roskell) ripped Wigan to shreds down the middle, that day.
Those first few weeks of that season are amongst my happiest times as a Wire fan. Such a pity that Greg and the club couldn't agree on a suitable contract, which soured his relations with us for the next few seasons. The abuse us in the Fletcher End threw at him, viewed with what's happened to him recently, just shows how silly we all can be.
When he came back 4 years later, he was just as good, and built a great partnership with Kelly (Genius) Shellford, and again, played a big part in another favourite Wire time of mine. Such a shame we didn't win the league that year.
A fantastic player for us 30+ers, that can sit alongside Wire names like Boyd, Tamati, Jackson, Morley, Monaghan, as players who may not have reached Testimonial level, but have served with distinction nevertheless.
RIP

| Quote: DallasMead "Been watching since the mid 1980s and Greg Mackey was easily the toughest Wire player I ever saw. Forget Boyd, Cullen etc, this man was 11 stone wet through and got smashed with head shots EVERY match, never injured, never missed a match........wire legend on the pitch and a top bloke off it.
RIP Mate.
You can say that again. I started supporting Warrington in the 90s when Jonathan Davies was in the side. One of my earliest memories was watching a Cup tie (regal trophy maybe?) against (i think) St Helens. Greg Mackey was hurt - a lower back injury. Interchange rule had just been brought in (around 1993/94) and Mackey was in so much pain he had to lie on his front on the trackside, just in front of the dugouts, as he couldn't sit on the bench due to the pain, and he may well have been needed to go back on before the end of the game.
I remember Ray French pointing this out, saying he would have to wait to go to hospital, as Warrington might need him to go in for a stint at hooker. Seriously tough guy.
A very sad loss.

| Excellent player for Warrington and Hull. Tough, reliable and a great leader.
He'll be sadly missed but fondly remembered.

| Sad end, was a great player !
Remember when we signed him(Huddersfield) at the back end of his career, i was absolutely over the moon, used to watch him for you lot and FC on scrumdown and could only admire...we only got a season and a bit out of him but even then he was still an absolute quality player and was one of those at the beginning of Ken Davy's reign that started taking the club back up to the top.
Thoughts to his friends and family, RIP Greg
