| Quote The Railwayman="The Railwayman"That's a shame if true. I still think there is a good player in there somewhere. When he first burst onto the scene I thought he looked a real talent. He doesn't seem to have had many chances since and / or kicked on.
1. Is that a problem with our coaching team who can't develop further the skills and roles of young talent ?
2. Is it an issue with the player not putting in the hard graft ?
3. Do we have a surplus of talent in his role and can afford to only keep the best whoever they may be ?
If he does go to HKR with TS in the hot seat that's interesting if potentially a bit depressing as TS was in charge when he came through and must see something in him. Either that or he is cheap and HKR are skint
I suppose that it is these types of decisions our coaching staff are paid to manage but sometimes you wonder how interesting it would be to be a fly on the appropriate wall'"
1) Must be true. The amount of young players that break through into the side, play 30+ games, then end up leaving to lower RL clubs is very high. Our conversion rate is very low.

| Or is part of the problem that warrington is a cash cow and young players see more senior players or imports earning a higher wages and think right I want £xxk per year. From what I hear there are a number of players that have moved on under those circumstances.
I think the money that we pay out gives us a problem.
Look at the Wigan team and look at all of the positions and I reckon that there will be only 1/2 positions where we think that the Wigan player in that shirt is on more than the Warrington equivalent.
I know we don't know the contract values but I would be surprised if it is any more than 2. Yet the bulk of their squad has a man drawer full of GF rings.
We are a gravy train but we have put ourselves in that position chasing the Holy grail.

Or it could be that they just aren't good enough players, ie we don't identify and sign up players of the required talent.
If the problem was that we were bringing through genuine talent, but unable to take it to the next level ourselves, then guys who we released would get picked up by other clubs and show us what they can do in the right environment.
Of those young players that you mention who have come through in to our team and played 30+ games, how many would have played that many games at Wigan, Saints or Leeds (bearing in mind the competition they would have had from the young players at those clubs).

| Forgive me if I don't call the council for ticker tape parades, resulting in road closures, after the signing of a Wigan reject from two years ago.
We've now got a "big personality for the dressing room". Well #### me backwards. To say I won't lose sleep, is an understatement.
NZ Warriors didn't want him, Widnes can't afford him.
So, our centres for next year, are
Gelling
One trick King
and the bloke from Union, that looks lost.

| Well finally the cats are out the bag. Obviously these signings (Brand & Gelling) where done close to 5 months ago. With the possible departure of Patton & Livett surely we must be signing a prop and possibly one other forward.
Let’s hope the next signing’s are ‘major’ as so far we have recruited - 2 young talented championship players, 1 wigan prop that couldn’t get near their team, an experienced centre that’s plagued with injuries & on the decline and Widdop. It’s a rather mixed bag to say the least, even though the average age of the squad for next season has probably gone down, we are still lacking the firepower and drive in the pack to make us a force along side St Helens next season.

I think this is the case, but perhaps more an effort/quantity problem than scouting ability. I think Warrington as a club have realised that now. When the Rylands team was signed up by Saints there seemed to be a lot of consternation at Warrington, lots of talk at kids rugby about why and who blamed who. From my own experience, last year there was minimal involvement from Warrington at my lads junior side. Saints had been down a few times and invited a few to training camps, as had Wigan. But Warrington, bar a guy being at the school tournaments, hadn't. But this year and especially after the Rylands moment, they've been everywhere. There has been a Warrington coach/scout/community person at every single training session and home game this year and they've been really involved, talking to the players during and after training and games and coaching the coaches as well as the players. They've set up a system where the coach has to give match reports on certain players after every game and they've asked the coach to change the position of a couple of players. There are now a few lads in training camps with Warrington (As well as Saints and Wigan) and a couple have been offered one to one training with first team players and coaches.

Also a fair few of the Widnes fans are happy to see him gone.
