It comes down to being comfortable with traditional rivalries. Wigan and Saints fans are probably more used to accepting a rivalry with each other and Leeds (and Bradford back in the day). Challenge from the likes of Warrington or Hull is more unsettling, as deep down it pricks away at them as a kind of rivalry they shouldn't have to deal with.

It's similar to football - during United's period of dominance, it felt like the rivalry they respected the most was with Arsenal in Wenger's early days. When they faced challenge from Blackburn or Newcastle they saw these clubs as fleeting upstarts who were easily seen off. When it was Chelsea or City, they were enraged and ranted about them buying the league, having no history and ruining the game with money.

For me Wigan have always been our No1 rival (apart from when they were relegated obviously) possibly down to being from N-le-W.
The more a team’s supporters try to belittle us the more I see it as their worry that we are legitimate challengers.

I can't believe you went to the expense of going skiing in order to avoid a home game against Saints.

Didn't we get penalised on Thursday for the ref saying the tackle was complete & our player carried on playing? A couple of occasions in the Hull game the player was just told to go back& play the ball.

Yes, Wigan have been our biggest rival, but the club has been in decline of late with both their performances and crowds falling. And we used to get a fair few Leeds supporters bragging about all those GF wins, but that has also disappeared. So hardly surprising that we now have a smattering of Saints fans. particularly when they had by far and away the best team in SL last year but were beaten by us in the CC. That must have really hurt.

100% of every Saints fan pre 7.45pm said they're gonna put 50 on us....
At 10pm they suddenly lost 6/7 1st teamers, 1/2 the cap....

Annoys me that rule. You were done because Ashton passed the ball which is always penalised. If you carry on running you get told to go back. What's the difference?

The difference is you can’t always hear the ref shout “held” but you should know when a tackle to the floor is complete. No issue about that penalty, but the break was fantastic, one of the stand out moments for me.
