| Quote: matty wire 75 "I suppose you have never chanted Sh*t helens then? Or do you just shake your head in disgust and question the maturity of fellow wire fans when they chant it? Or is it because i dared to use an insulting moniker against a team you support? They will always be manure to me.'"
Correct.
If you are going to use an insult, at least choose a proper one. I can't take anyone who says manure serious though. In the same way I couldn't talk football with a United fan who called Liverpool liverpoo.

| well i disagree. Just because i like to use childish name calling when refering to manchester united does'nt mean i don't know my football.

Maybe you do. But that's the sort of thing I'd expect to hear from a Stoke/Reading/new age Arsenal fan in fact most of the small time ABU nation of fans out there. Liverpool fans used to be a bit different. To the point where teams visiting Anfield and expecting a 'Stand up, if you hate Man U' love in, where left baffled as to why the Liverpool fans didn't join in.

I think the internet has actually spawned a generation of 'name-calling' sports fans, who think its big to come on forums like this one and spout inflammatory stuff, whether it be about Rugby, Football, or whatever.
Rivalry has always been there, but I think in the 'old days' there was always a respect rooted in it....Nowadays, people, especially younger ones, think rivalry involves silly names and constant oneupmanship.
Personally, i think its all rather tedious.....

| As somebody who has been to OT to watch liverpool (not since the early 90's though.) i remember the shouts of "murderers" aimed at us when we stepped off the coach. I think my manure aside is nothing in comparison. Do you? And i will now refer to them as MU from now on to save the peace. I don't think that name calling in sport is a new thing at all. I think in terms of football it's replaced the blind hatred inspired violence which first dominated when i first went to anfield. I know which i prefer!

| Quote: 74' "Fair enough. I stand wrong then. It's a sad thing in football when a player recieves such threats like Gerrard and Rooney have.'"
I think Rooney is a bit of a ringpiece to be fair but such dramatic action like that is sad. Don't get me wrong, I don't condone the way Rooney went about his business this week, nor do I believe the balance of power falling drastically the way of player will have any kind of positive impact on Football, long term.
But the fans of this game, not all I'll admit, seem to take it way too seriously. I mean, its this depressed nation itself, along with the media who watched England receive a big fat German sausage up their ricker in summer yet its these same parties who are guilty for putting these overpaid stars on a ridiculously high pedestal in the first place.
I remember in Euro 2004. When Zidane scored to knock England out, some complete shagwipe threw his pint glass on the floor and looked like he was about to take on the world. In the back of my mind I couldn't help thinking 'what part of England winning nothing for centuries are you finding difficult to grasp?'.

Both sets of fans have s. Each year as I walk past the away corner on the way onto the ground I hear LFC fans singing "who's that lying on the runaway" on the concourse which we can hear outside or throwing inflatable planes. Also the majority of bindippers in the ground doing aeroplane actions. Also lot's of United fans doing dickish stuff.

| I admit to having knowledge of the munich chants yes. Doesnt make it right and the only person who felt offended was latchford bob when i originally called MU manure.

| Why on earth are you all wasting valuable breath on an RL forum discussing wendyball, an activity ( I wouldn't dignify it with the word 'sport' ) that is corrupt to the core and provides about five minutes of entertainment in each and every eleven-and-a-half month season?

| That is probably the best thing said in this thread. The reason im on here is because i want to talk and argue about RL not my football allegiances. So to all the MU, city, Everton and LFC fans on here let's all just remember that the mighty wire is in all our hearts.
