| I am much more concerned about the back up of our forwards even though we thought we had lots at the start of the season. The fact that our coach won't select our youngsters says so much.
& so does the composition of our bench. We are always likely to be short of a few of our better players & it is going to bite us in the bottom. Currie & Nicholson are fine & it would be good to be able to give them a few minutes rest every now & again.

| Quote: Barbed Wire "Common myth. Missed at a rate of 7.6%, comparable to Farrell and McQueen (6.72 & 7.9) significantly better than Bachelor (12.09) but far behind Bateman (5.13), who granted spent a lot of time in the middle, where misses are less frequent, statistically.'"
I don't give a stuff about stats. There was umpteen occasions last season where the opposition were heading for the try line and currie made no attempt to stop them despite being in attendance.

| Quote: Gazwire "We'll recover from last night and learn a few lessons but I do have a few concerns about Currie when the chips are down (no pun intended). Past 2 games we've been short in the forwards and to me he hasn't really stepped up. In fact the opposite; he seems to back away from involvement in the hard yards department leaving others to take the knocks. He's a good player with a strong set of props, but more of a passenger without this.'"
But this is the same going back to last season! Currie was getting criticised from all angles for not being effective, as was Peanut. Backrowers and centres require defences to be pulled towards the middles to create one on ones or gapes on the edges.
If currie has to come in to share prop work, he isn’t being used to his forte. He fatigues, he’s out of position etc.
Put him behind a dominant pack, both him and Nicholson are
Internationals!!
I said behind a top pack Currie will be an England international again, and I was right. It’s not his job to be a prop.

If that was even close to being true, why is he getting picked?

How many players could you say that about over the years, countless.

The suggestion is that Currie is actively avoiding tacking and deliberately conceding. In an era where the games are recorded and analysis undertaken by a suite of people, how, if it was true, can he still get picked?
The truth is, that’s nonsense. There are times where defenders will do different things (instead of sliding, they get drawn to the ball, see Walker last night), but that is not a deliberate act and often isn’t even that persons fault. Back to the Walker example, I think it was Clark that didn’t slide where he should, Walker did the right thing. If you scrutinise it, Clark is at fault, but first glance you look and think Walker had fell for a dummy or not got his man.

Is that the one where Williams shoots out of the line, runs in-front of Currie but pulled out without putting a hand on him?
That’s what I mean about players doing the same thing. The job is there, given that numbers were short, is either all to shoot in, or to quick slide off. If everyone went in, Havard would be Williams’ man. If everyone was to slide, with the pass being so far in front of the line, Currie could have started to slide off and Thewlis could have had led the contact on Havard given the momentum of his slide.
It’s tough to attribute blame to one player when a system fails. It’s just plain wrong to say that someone deliberately missed tackles. That’s just match fixing.

You don't need to go back to last season. Just have a watch of sneyd's try for Salford a few weeks back.

So why is the coach picking himi? Is Powell not watching the same highlights as you? And Wane? Does he not watch Wigan vs Warrington games?
It’s the same try, but you can see it with whatever opinion you want. The fact you that you want that try and see only Currie at fault confirms the point that some people just want to find a scapegoat. Williams comes out of the line, out of position traveled in-front of Currie. If Currie carries in forward, clashes with Williams people would be on here saying “Williams would have smashed him if Currie didn’t get in the way”, but Currie wasn’t in the way, Williams was.

Williams doesn't run I'm front of him and why would I want to see anyone in particular to be at fault. I have no personal gripe with currie. This reminds me of when people started saying penny was useless in defence and people wouldn't accept it, it was everyone round him leaving him out to dry. Currie is no longer good enough as far as I'm concerned, no scapegoating going on here, he isn't responsible for the last 2 defeats but more and more people are noticing his shortcomings hence this thread. You think he's fine I get that, I could argue that that is blinding you to his shortcomings. We are just going round in circles.

| Some of it may be down to his serious injury, but he doesn't put his hand up to make hard yards when we need a bit of help. For all his faults, Matautia was running in hard, and other less physical players including Ashton and Thewlis when he came on.
I've also seen him show, sometimes, a lack of commitment in the tackle but also take the point that it's difficult to truly single out players for missed tackles when the defensive line has perhaps failed.
Currie would be ideal alongside Benny Westwood and the rest of that pack around 2011, but, for me, he's a handy bench player if we can find a powerful second row alongside Nicholson. He's great if the going is good, but I think we need more if we're going to compete on a consistent level. Would Saints or Wigan have him in their side? I don't think they would.

| Rewind 3 weeks and weren't we all waxing lyrical about the Currie/Nicholson second row?
Or did I dream that? Would make a change from that dream about Jo Blythe that keeps waking me up.
