He last pulled a Wire jersey on, nearly a decade ago.
We move him to a coaching capacity, and he goes through the motions, for the best part of that decade.
He moves on, and helps transform Wigan from dull as ####, to easy on the eye. And now he's headhunted to Australia.
Maybe our last two coaches held him back?'"
Maybe but that doesn’t reflect well on himself. Perhaps should have backed himself to get a job elsewhere rather than take a backseat and take the money.

Who'd've employed him at that time, at a role higher than the one we gave him???....no one.

| When he's sunning himself in Brisbane next year I wonder if he will look back at Warrington and think of what he missed out on by leaving us, when we're in the Championship going to places like Dewsbury and Barrow and he will think "I could have been part of that"

| Hard to disagree with Lefty's observations. Harry Smith has been completely transformed. You would have to imagine most of that will be down to Briers. He is going to be tough to replace. There aren't many former top class half back coaches knocking around. Sean Long maybe, but he is thicker than a Victorian toilet.

I'm counting overall contribution to Wire.
If its "who is the best RL player who played at some point for Wire" then Johns.
If its "who played at the highest level in a Wire jersey" then Davies.

Bobby Fulton was head and shoulders above Andrew Johns and Jonathon Davies, as good as they were. The closest in style I have seen to Fulton was Chris Sandow, but Fulton carried that standard throughout his career.
He was a Stockton Heath lad as well.

Yeah I think the caveat of Sally was "in their lifetime". Fulton is a great shout with 16 games for the wire in 1969/70.

Maybe our toxic atmosphere and the bad apples held him back?

| Or he learnt so much here that just a year top up at Wigan has now seen him get an NRL gig...

| As mentioned Boyd hands down followed closely by Bob Jackson + Mike Gregory.

| A lot of conjecture on here. I’m not sure a year at Wigan has changed his reputation massively, although would have benefited by getting a sample of a new environment.
I do believe this move was meant to happen in 2020 though, but Covid put it on hold.

There will be only a handful of posters still alive who saw Brian Bevan in his pomp.
My late father was a big fan of "Bev" and would always be recalling games that Bevan played in with stories to me, when I was a kid.

Same - my late father and grandfather told me stories. They never mentioned his kick return stats, high bomb % or if he could get a quick play the ball. They did mention how elusive, exciting, and prolific he was though.
