Sorry but don't see the huge up in arms. It was a dead cert try and all Hill could to do to prevent that was to smash him. He waits until the ball hits the player and then tries to belt him and knock the ball loose. He does, but connected with the head, not malicious at all. I think if Hill hits the shoulders then Powell not expecting the hit would have lost the ball anyway. It was the right play and just wrong execution.

Had to be done in a split second and simply unfortunate.

Aside from that he was having a really good game bar the French try. Saw no reason IN THIS GAME to strip Hill of captain. Last few seasons though, sure.

Eye gouge video doesn’t show Smithies hands anywhere near Austin’s face. Absolutely pathetic showing that from Austin, especially after the way he pushed Burgess over when he was getting back up (after being steam rolled by BMM). Needs to concentrate on rugby and not chasing the ref or that haircut.

Austin was definitely accusing of face rather than eyes, and he was livid. I think the disciplinary will find it inconclusive, the forearm to the throat however looked blatant and he will be lucky to escape sanction. (He being whoever it was!)

He wasn't outstanding but got through plenty of work. If you'd put the best prop forward in the world in that Widnes performance yesterday he'd have struggled to look anything other than ordinary
