The last time i was at the Willows was just after the smoking ban ,but it didn't stop the locals, & someone even managed to set light to the scoreboard. A great memory of one game was Rauhihi haring 30 yards down the wing to score & Paul Wood tearing in from 40(?) yards .

There but for the grace of God (and SJM and Tesco) go us.
Remember our [iproposed[/imove to Lime Kiln, Burtonwood.?
That would've [imore than likely[/i killed us.
We'd've practically been in St Helens, and were very successful. We were struggling, and every home game would've almost been an away match.
The move hasn't helped Salford (imo)'"
It was fantastic that we were able to secure that land, our stadium move meant we got even closer to our core fan base.
At one point I do remember someone trying to say it was an out of town development though. That was a laugh when it's only half a mile from what is classed as the centre.
In hindsight Salford didn't need to move when you consider the stadium part of franchising never got imposed. We definitely needed to move though as Wilderspool was costing us a fortune.

Yes, Lister. I remember a couple of people who were determined to "throw a spanner in the works", and prevent our move to the old Tetley's site. Some may say skull duggery, some may even say bent......ummmm.
As for moving because of franchising. I don't think the RFL/SL would've had the bottle to impose this. Wakey Cas and to some extent HKR are still playing in stadia that aren't exactly "easy on the eye", and the former two are still no nearer moving/ groundshareing/renovation

Helen Jones MP...I squirm every time she posses with a stiff new Warrington scarf for a photo shoot every time it approaches an election.
She opposed our move to Walkers...Helen Southwell MP was behind it all the way.
Helen Jones MP votes against Brexit even though her constituent voted out.
Helen Jones MP cannot be bothered to fight for the town to get toll free access across the Mersey Gateway even though our town gets crippled with avoidance traffic.
Helen Jones MP is very lucky to have a safe labour seat. She lives very comfortable in a nice big house far removed from the traffic issues of our town in a posh spot in Culcheth.

| Sadly with the present position of Salford it does seem as though rugby in the greater Manchester area is in serious, possibly fatal decliine, Salford, Swinton,,Rochdale and Oldham are all in the same position, tiny crowds, very few amateaur teams, and 2 hugely ssuccessfull football times in competition. Radio Manchester considers Wigan as its home team, with minimal coverage of the above teams I think that we were very fortunate in mot selecting some of the inane suggestions, for new grounds, Burtonwood, and Chester road at Daresury being 2 of the more sensible!!! Another one was a ground share with Sale. it does seem fortunate that through luck or good judgement we are in an ideal position. still it does seem a shame that the Salford position means that once again loyal supporters will be lost to the game . I personally feel that if we had moved to an out of town venue I would have been one of the missing rugby fans,

| Quote: Wires71 "Although the move was only 2 miles or so, it was out of walking distance from the residential area that was all around the Willows. Coupled with a general downturn in the quality of the game it was too much. It was a gamble that has not paid off and the club, like the game, is dying.
When are the RFL going to take notice if clubs like Salford (est 1873) and Widnes (est 1875) are going to the wall? All hopes on Toronto hey? Let's hope they are not a flash in the pan SL side like Gateshead, Paris St German, Crusaders, London Broncos etc.'"
Slightly harsh on the original Gateshead as they only disappeared to keep Hull in the top flight (same as the original Sheffield did with Huddersfield).

| The small district of Sale pulls around 6K and can near fill the AJ Bell when Leicester or Bath play there....blaming the stadium location as the reason looks unfounded with the Salford attendances mirroring that of the Willows.

I hold no candle for Helen Jones, but MPs are not 'delegates' carrying the votes of their consituents into parliament, they are supposed to use their judgement.

MP's using their judgement is what concerns me most. In recent memory ...
