| It was the local guardian twitter post. I can't remember the gist now and the topic has branched out since...but it was enough for me to post that his moaning isn't going to get the result changed. Doing a number on Roberts and frustrating him and Pricey is fine by me, doing zero to counter on the field and moaning about it after isn't.

| The hiring/bringing in for pre season classes of [i wrestling coaches[/i by clubs, has slowed down our game hugely, in the last decade. No wonder we can't compete and beat the Aussies.
I watched the second SoO a couple of weeks ago (nowt better to do), and was amazed with the speed of their play the balls. Yes, of course their game had some [irough stuff[/i, but it's good biff, and they get on with the game.
Ours is just petty niggle, and dragging teams down to a lower level.

| All high tackles should be a penalty & at least 10 minutes in the bin, no matter how many times the ref has wagged his finger at a player , a high tackle & your off. Losing playing staff might encourage coaches to insist on tackling below the shoulders & to work on improved tackling techniques.

so even accidental high tackles when a player is slipping? This is why the game is going soft

| It would have to be at the ref's discretion.

Yeah I agree. The slowing down tactics aren’t part of the roughing up for me. It’s going that extra effort in a tackle, not just just take a man down but to hammer him down and give him a push in the head on your way back up. Letting him know you’ve had him. That’s what the whole Aussie game is all about. There’s loads of hard tackles and intimidatory stuff but the PTBs are cleaner and faster than ours because they aren’t bothered about turtling, holding down, pulling arms, pretending to be trapped in.

Well it is up to the ref anyway to blow for a high tackle ,but players need protecting from foul play & a high tackle is foul play unless it is a player slipping & falling into what looks like a high tackle as the OP suggested. A rugby player gets enough knocks as it is during a game without deliberate targeting of the head & neck.
