| So when you say "other clubs coaches silverware achievement the season prior as mitigating circumstances". We should ignore the fact that we got to the Grand Final and CC Final and won the League Leaders Shield, as they are not relevant and shouldnt give Tony Smith some slack?
The fact that we have been to 4 Challenge Cup Finals, Winning 3. Getting to 3 GF's (losing them all) Twice League Leaders Shield winners. We have recent history of getting to finals. Why would we not trust in keeping our coach who has provided us with the best memories i have ever had as a Wire fan. Yes we have had a bad start, we may or may not come good but i am still behind our Coach, Team and Club.

| In his last post match interview vs Salford, right at the end and half under his breath.....
"and they have money to spend!" Got up and walked off.
A very strange remark, I thought then his card was marked.
I even highlighted it on I.rlfans last week.

| Quote: Wires71 "I don't go quiet. I remind the person who challenges me of the other clubs coaches silverware achievement the season prior as mitigating circumstances. It is usually the challenger who goes quiet after that.
It is clear to me that Saints seem to maintain a higher expectation of league position, performances and results than we do at Warrington and have acted swiftly the moment they are not met. They are 4 points ahead of us with 2 more wins, positive points difference and sitting in the super 8s and yet that is not good enough.
Took some balls getting deposing Cunningham with such history at the club.'"
Here's a 'challenge' for you he may be a Saints legend but what silverware has Coach Cunningham won, you know as far as mitigating circumstances are concerned?

Unfair comparison as Cunningham is a club hero and would have been afforded more time as most saints fans and the club would have desperately wanted him to work out like we did with Cullen , they saw that it was very unlikely that he will win them some silverware in the near future and let him go. Could he return yes most likely, he should never have been given the job in the first place.
reading back some of the posters would give smith a job for life just for getting us to finals !! No requirement to win them just to get there, that's a small club mentality which we need to move away from the grand final victory should be our target every season and anything but is a failure, not the end of the world sack the coach rebuild failure but failure all the same. I'd hazard a guess that over the time smith has been here we would have spent £50m+ Certainly a fair chunk of change and failed to win the gf he has won 3 cc and 2lls so we're paying approx 10m for a trophy acceptable for a gf win maybe but not the second and third their trophy !! I refuse to boast the final defeats as any kind of success or something to be proud of because we did not win them often as favourites and have lead them too !
Not calling for smiths head even if we win the gf I still believe his time is nearing an end and that if someone the club has identified as a suitable replacment becomes available we should make a move hat too does not mean smith leaves the club. He has given us good memories and we've seen some great rugby played under his leadership not in question.

| Pity it had to end this way for KC when he had Saints blood running through his veins but ,even though he was a top player , not all good players make good coaches. Too many many old boys in the back room too for the fans liking from what i've been hearing.

Of course it's an unfair comparison, but, I made it in direct response to Wires71 post, particularly where he (I'm paraphrasing here) tells the 'challenger' (to his opinion) that Smith must be judged on what other coaches have won the previous season it's a mitigating circumstance apparently and then goes on to tell us that being above us this season isn't good enough for go ahead ambitious Saints.
They are so ambitious that they have sacked their coach for not winning anything this season it's just not good enough!!
I agree that TS is nearing the end of his tenure but I could also be seen as a staunch, almost blind faith Smith supporter by some, in truth I'm not I just don't always agree (it's allowed both ways) about the measure of success. or what I think is in the club's best interests as far as this most important of positions is.
By all means the club should and will relieve Smith of his duties, but, please let it be planned, let it be when the time is right and let it be when we have a successor lined up. After all succession planning is pointed out as one of his biggest failures, I hope the club's hierarchy do better when the time comes

Not quite. My expectations for Warrington are that we should be a team challenging for trophies and so shouldn't just be taking a punt on ex players as coaches, just because they were good players.
I wonder if Saints will be looking at Michael Monaghan or Lee Briers for their head coaching vacancy, as have been suggested on this forum as replacements for Smith?

1. It's just a blip they will come good.
2. The players have been low on confidence and in poor form.
3. The performances can never be blamed on the coach.
4. There are no quality replacements available anywhere in the world that would come to SL.
5. There are only small differences between top and bottom.'"
And just like Wire. NO LUCK BUT TRAINING REALLY WELL

I know he caused us a lot of pain over the years but I feel sorry for him in a way. He should have trotted off to coach the under 19's for a few years and then Swinton (or similar) for a year and then Leigh for a few years before coming back to saints. His coaching career is probably over now. He was a great player..
It will be interesting to see who they have lined up.'"

| Just looking on redvee the names in the frame are Justin Morgan, Steve McNamara, Paul Rowley, Geoff Toovey and David Fairleigh. The popular choice would be Daryl Powell but general acceptance that after doing a long rebuilding job with Cas to take them to near the summit he won't want to give them up now and start from scratch again.
