I've been to many sporting events over the years but it's only at the rugby that I've heard the word spleen.

I actually hate hearing the older fans at whatever ground shout "Man N Ball"...!!! The strange thing is I don't even know why it annoys me..!

When, and more importantly why, was the 'Up and Under' replaced by the 'Bomb' ?

Ha! That was my mum's catch phrase (along with "where's the support!?"icon_wink.gif at Wilderspool, so I sometimes shout it in jest.

Well, the game sold out to TV a good while ago, and TV will continue to dictate, hence another pointless saying to add to the collection.

And then the "bomb" is "diffused" in-goal!

Ref saying "both feet on the line" to a goal line defence, compared to the number of players that actually do it, yet aren't penalised.

One said on Sky tonight, that gets said a lot is "xx points to the good".

That could be an Eddie/Stevoism though.

The arm wrestle....well, I've just a game of rugby, and I didn't see two American men sat at a table in lumberjack shirts and Stetsons, holding each others hands, whilst the other hand holds on to a pole, being surrounded by similarly dressed Americans, drinking "beer".

I've heard of people winning TV's, holidays of a lifetime, a car, cash, an evening with Maria Whittaker, but never the floor.

My ex's family, Irish descent, used that term quite a bit and I took it to mean getting berated by the woman of the house if for example you'd stayed out a little later than you should after work and dinner was ruined.....probably explains why she's my ex ha ha
