| There is a shortage of good coaching staff.
But if we couldn't get Shaun Edwards I'd be happy with Jon Kerr... Yes not John Sharp.

| I'd be delirious if we got Darryl Powell, happy with Brian Noble, Paul Rowley (I know he's just signed a contract) or John Kear.

| Can we just lock this post please, why on earth would we take a coach who has failed at two poor teams in Hull Fc and Wakefield to a top end of the table team. Ludicrous rumour.

| Great appointment if true, more top clubs should be following the Wigan way and giving British coaches a chance to shine.
Its alright giving them a chance at clubs like Wakefield, Bradford and Widnes.., But they cant win anything there.

bury your head in the sand then...its happening and thats a fact.
He has requested to leave with 2 years left on a contract and has not been sacked or paid off.
Put it into perpective...why would he do that unless he had something much better on the cards ?
He would hardly jack it in for a move to somewhere like Bradford or worse still down to championship he is far too arrogant for that, so where else would he be going ?? you can discount a number of teams in an instant.
either Hull team - Never in a million years
Leeds or Wigan - Not a hope in Hell
Salford - No way
Giants, Saints - No way.
The only realistic alternative would be Catalans with the french connection but a good source at the club has said he is definately going to warrington under smith for when he heads home to australia.
For what its worth I can't believe it myself and surely if that was going to be the case Lee Briers would be the obvious choice as I am sure he would make a great coach and have warrington playing the same brand of rugby as he did when he was playing.

| Maybe Agar is a genius that has been plagued by small clubs with no decent players and terrible owners that wont back him.
maybe Smith and Moran have sat down with him, like what they see and are prepared to give him a shot at the big time.

| Bloody hell if it is true then the guy should at least be given a chance, he has coached two poor teams with no hope of any silverware, we are a different proposition all together!

| Time will tell on this one. Last year there was a rumour on here that Millward was joining our coaching staff but that never materialised. I'd rather have Agar than Millward to be fair.
If we do hear an announcement in the next few weeks that Agar is joining our staff then the OP is probably right. Once someone has been a head coach they don't usually step down to being an assistant without a reason.
I can see the scenario where TS has privately told the board he's leaving to go to the Dragons and they are hurriedly trying to get some form of succession in place. It is hard to find coaches as the market is barren. Hull are supposed to be an ambitious club with new ownership targeting trophies but they haven't been able to get a top coach in: they've had Gentle and Radford. Salford are another big ambitious club making big player signings but they are coached by Harris. If Smith leaves I would go all out to get Brian Noble in, but he might be content doing media work now. We shouldn't be surprised if we end up with an appointment that's not a big name in the game: even Saints a few years ago were getting Mick Potter and Royce Simmons who were not exactly superstars.
To get a top coach in takes time and the right moment when the right person is available. Simon Moran and the board will no doubt be looking all over the market the same way as they did players and sometimes you need a holding appointment, the 9 months or so of Jimmy Lowes was that, and Agar could come in for the same role: a holding appointment where if a year down the line a stand out coach was available, assuming we weren't ripping up trees in SL we could say thanks to Richard for his hard work since joining the club and agree to part by mutual consent.

Not necessarily.
Paul Cullen resigned because he was a proud Warringtonian. Brian Johnson and Daryl Van De Velde both resigned too because they also were too proud to take the money.

| Whilst it seems unlikely, the astonishment of Wakey fans needs to be tempered. In Agar's time there he never had the chance to coach top-class players, so the team's performance is at least as much down to the playing staff as to the coach who was trying to make a silk purse etc etc. That doesn't automatically translate into Wire giving him a shot, though. If I were to look for a British coach, moreover, I'd take John Kear, assuming that Daryl Powell wants to make more of a mark at Cas before he moves on.
