| anyone blaming myler tonight need to give their head a wobble.. i thought he was a lot better than Ratchford for a start, his kicking game was better than normal (admittedly it doesn't take much) and he looked like he was really trying out there which is more than can be said for a few others.

Myler was Warrington's best player by a mile tonight.
Those slagging him off know nothing about the game.
Ratchford was appalling at stand off, no game management at all!
Some serious problems at Warrington though, and I would point the finger at Tony Smith in the main.
The team appears to have no attacking structure.
I watch a lot of RL, and I would say most teams have 5-6 attacking plays.
Widnes, Leeds, Cas and Saints probably have 8-12.
Warrington appear to have none since the kick to Joel was ditched for being to predictable!
The point is, who is coaching the attack, because they are failing!
Ryan Atkins made a break tonight, 3 years ago, try!
Now he gets 10 yards into the break and starts looking round for support, why, because he doesn't back his own pace to the line.
This happened with Riley last season!
Do they have a sprint coach at Warrington, or has Mr Squeeze The Asset, Andy Gatcliffe cut corners their too?

First decent post on this thread.

| I thought his kicking game was better than usual in the first half to be fair. Second half he twice threw passes straight into touch then threw another to absolutely nobody (Rhys ended up scoring from it but it got disallowed because the pass from Myler was miles forward). It was if he isn't even looking where his team mates were.

With us being the better side these days, we are licking our lips at inflicting more misery on Wire in the coming derby. I expect a fairly straight forward win.[/quote:1d72a5qw][b:1d72a5qw]Wire 44 - 6 Widnes[/b:1d72a5qw]

I was past half way at the back on the South Stand, so I didn't get a great view but, from the way the ball left his hands I had thought (hoped, perhaps...) a KR player had knocked his arm, which led the pass to go so awry.
In terms of his kicking game: it just isn't good enough. It is not good enough to have a 'go to' kicker with a kicking game that (aptly) warrants comments like "better than usual" and "OK" when speaking positively about it. We were spoiled with Briers but most other SL teams have at least one (and often 2) players capable of putting in a decent attacking kick at the end of every set.
I think, more than any of the numerous problems we're having, the kicking game is the biggest one. Not only are we not able to attain points off a kick (which leaves us with, pretty much, two options: crash over the line from short range or hope the opposition don't number up right in defence), but we're not able to force repeat sets; we're not able to build pressure; we're not able to gain decent field position to hunt mistakes. We spent so little time in the KR 20m tonight that we barely got a chance to see what our attack looked like (although, judging by the clueless display in their 10m towards to end, I guess we should be thankful of that...).

apparently we don't have ANYONE coaching attacking plays... its left up to the players.
who have devised a brilliant play which i like to call 'all stand in a static line and look disinterested while we pass the ball along it, get smashed and lose 10 yards'
its especially effective near the oppositions line.

| I think I can sum this up.
Richie Myler looked well off running into the confusion Briers created. Im not saying he's a poor halfback in fact I always thought he Looked Good next to Briers . But until we buy in a REAL Playmaker we are always going to come up short.
I actually feel sorry for Ratchford because come the end of the season he's going to find himself playing off the bench or in the centre , as he is certainly not our best fullback anymore.

| Ratchford SHOULD be in the centres for me, he has a bit of room, he has a decent step and he has the brain.

| Id rather have Ratchford on the bench as utility back and 3 forwards.
Ratchford comes into his own when defences begin to tire.
So bring him on fresh to a point where within the first 20 mins we have sourced an area of weakness.
Its not a demotion in my eyes to put him on the bench, its a strategic move and use of his versatility.
Oh....and buy Danny Brough or Kevin Brown to plug that void of a lack of gobbing off and pinpoint kicking that we are lacking.
