A bit long to put on his gravestone, but I am sure something could be worked out.
All players have to look to their own welfare as it's a short, unpredictable career, with a good chance that it can end prematurely. But Gregory seemed to cross the line from protecting his interests, into the territory of self-serving and I think many fans were left with a feeling of betrayal. It's a bit like getting the plumber round to replace your boiler, then finding he has charged you top whack but fitted a second hand Polish job that he bought from the scrap yard.
Good luck to you Andy, but don't come back round here expecting stories of fond memories. You sold your goodwill a long time ago.

| I don't think hate is the right word Sally C.
I would say disappointed, disappointed with him.
Little do people know that one time he told the club he wasn't fit to play...he was, but skipped the game.
He was invited to play golf that day and he did.
A guy that was at that golf match with him told me that Gregory had told him.
It was many years ago, so long ago I have no recollection who it was any more, but I remember he also had his interest in business not rugby.
You could ask him about it and see if he wants to put that in his book!

| Great player.......not the best I've seen in the primrose and blue, a bit of a cock by all accounts. But in his spells at Widnes Warrington and Wigan he was world class. no doubt about it.
and those that hold some grudge over his departure from Warrington should be satisfied that he was shafted by Wigan in the end. Which meant instead of retiring a Wigan Legend he drifted slowly out of the game over a four year period by going to Leeds and then Salford and being a a shadow of his former self.
was he the difference between us being the dominant team of the late 80's early 90's or Wigan.....? no ...in the Maine road semi John woods was the best half back on the park by a country mile....But Wigan had Ellery Hanley....

| Quote: Dita's Slot Meter "
The closest I can come to a tribute is that he was the difference between Wigan becoming the great side of the late 80's, instead of Wire.
At the time of his exit, Wire were simply crushing all before them, including a beating of Wigan at Wilderspool - From his exit onwards, the pendulum steadily swung and what we had to endure was the saddest of false dawns I've witnessed in all my time following Wire.
From his brief spell with us, he provided some of the best rugby league I've ever seen, but he also left us with the overwhelming feeling of 'what if???......''"
He joined us in 1984/85, we finished 11th that season, Wigan finished 3rd.
In 1985/86 we finished 4th, Wigan finished 2nd.
So I'm not sure what pendulum swung because they were ahead of us anyway.
Probably memories have got rose-tinted because probably our best run of the 1980s was the back end of 1986, just before he left, after we lost our first two games of the season (what's new) we won 14 in a row which included the 54-16 at Leeds and the win at Central Park on New Year's Day.
But even then Wigan were still above us, the only team they'd lost to was us, they'd won all the rest.

Oh yes that dismantling of Leeds was 1 of the best displays by a Warrington team i've ever seen and still ranks as up there with the best.Peter Fox got the sack after that game if i'm not mistaken.Great memories.

| Unfortunately for us after that Leeds defeat they vowed to rebuild and rebuild they did and have never been a million miles off since.

You obviously don't know Andy , at present he is training very hard to compete in his Testimonial year , which has some great events coming up , and I know for a fact he hasn't touched Beer for a couple of months now ,only one 7 better than him ever , Sir Alex M.Charlie knows .

It took a long time for Leeds to get things right. They spent a long time trying to compete with Wigan by signing big stars but not having Wigan's relentless winning team culture. At the start of SL they were way off the pace. I would say the rebuilding of Leeds as a real force started when they signed Iestyn Harris from us and brought Graham Murray over as coach.

Agreed but that was said following that game.
It was Leeds defeat to end all like defeats.
Bit like what Dr Kockrash said after we smashed them too.
