We've only played one game. And the doom and gloom merchants are in full force if he is the answer to our problems.
Currently I think we are abouts where Saints were 2/3 years ago.
No chance of winning anything but are blooding in quite a few youngsters.
I'll take not winning anything for a couple of years if it gives the likes of Currie, Evans, Ormsby, Laithwaite, Riley etc.... A chance to develop into the players they have the potential to be.'"
This for me. I would love nothing more than to see even a couple of our young players make a real step up this season and I would be happy with a good but not great season if that happened.

Richie Myler - player of the season last year until injured. Would have walked into the England squad.
Stefan Ratchford - similar skill set to Sammut, just far more reliable.
Gareth O'Brien - far more reliable than Sammut, organises the team, great kicking game.
Sammut - one or two moments of inspiration every five or so games. Five or six big errors every other game.

O'Brien needs more game time before i judge him to be a good HB.
And as much as i like Ratchford i doubt very much he'd make more breaks in a game than Sammut would.

Couldn't agree more than the above.
In 2006 Sammut would have been a dream signing, thankfully we've progressed.
I'd much prefer Gaz O'Brien given a full season to prove his worth than throw money at a show pony.
We're in a huge transition period at the moment, and I want to see what out youth system has to offer.

| All correct! Neither GOB, myler, ratchford or Sammut are good enough but then the standard of super league is appalling. We've got the great st Helens creaming over the signing of Kyle amor and us wishing Mike Cooper would run home. Say what you like about koucash but he is right we need to up the standard and quickly as Thursday's game was park football.Due to the fact we've all been dragged down to the lowest common denominator I hope hudds take this chance to win it

| I think that there is an element of Wire fans that think just because we have money to spend, and probably money on the salary cap that we should sign anyone who becomes available...!
Just because we lost the opening game of the season there's no need to panick... Sammut is a Dennis Moran type luxury journey man player and not what we need.
The fact that none of the top clubs were interested in him says it all... This is just grabbing at straws and reminds me of when a few people wanted Shaun McCrae as our coach a few years back...

Totally agree with this, I think people have gone way over the top after one game (we were awful) but we will improve!

Wigan can do all that and win the double at the same time

| I think he's looked very good in some average sides but doesn't stand up in a cohesive side with above-average players

| Tonight summed Sammut up, anyone that still thinks he'd bring something to Wire get your head examined.
