I'd say Bateman was fair game, given we had already tabled an offer, 'gentlemen's agreement' or not.
It doesn't stack up that we wouldn't make another signing. We're losing one of our top 20, and extensions to current squad are unlikely to have cost us more than this year's wages-more likely we'll have saved a few grand here and there on Moz, Briers et al. None of the fringe kids (Currie, Dwyer, etc) haven't done enough to force themselves into the top 20, so we have a space. Logic says Bateman.
We might know this time next week if Saturday goes badly
