| I can see why men's tennis gets the coverage it does. There are top athletes playing some fantastic and entertaining sport, all year round.
Women's tennis, on the other hand, is no more of a spectacle than women's rugby league. Apart from perving on Maria Kirilenko I don't see any redeeming features that sees the game get the coverage it does. They don't cover the court well at all, they don't have long rallies, they don't have the athleticism, they don't have the quality of shots, they only play three sets maximum.. Yet they get the same coverage and now the same winning money as the men. That's a joke in my eyes, and in no way sexist, they're just nowhere near as good.
I don't see why people hate Murray. He's inoffensive. I hope he wins tomorrow, it will be good.

I'm the opposite. I don't subscribe to the support someone gets just because they're good or have a chance of winning or are the best and wins everything.

| Why should he have to have a glimmering personality that for some reason everyone demands? He is a tennis player who came from an ordinary background and became worldclass at a sport, that doesn't mean he will be a tv star who is articulate and interesting to listen to. He's a bloke who is good at tennis, if you took randoms off the street you'd fine a vast majority would be the same as him, just not good at tennis.

| Personality gives an extra dimension that makes you want to watch them, the x factor if you would.
When i see Murray i just see a guy who although talented always looks sulky and holding his leg or shoulder or ankle pretending it's injured. Look at yesterday, first Brit to get to a final in years and he's straight off the court, the guy has no sense of occasion and just lulls around the court, his mum is weird too, sometimes it comes across as though they're a little too close almost incestual, bloody creepy is what i call it, the guys only redeeming feature is his tennis but ironically it's not enough.

| I enjoy watching tennis and am a big fan of Murray. Not just because he is British but because he is a very entertaining player to watch never gives up on a point and makes some amazing shots. Ain't bin as much lately but usually go for a game at Birchwood. What annoys me is the attitude of some people who say when he wins he is British and when gets beat is Scottish.

But that's just it, he's not there to make you want to watch him for his personality, he's there because he is world class at tennis. Go for a walk down the street, there's a vast number of creepy people about, but you wouldn't make much deal about it when you see them. He's there to play tennis and nothing else, when it comes down to it.

Seriously, Yed wants his tennis players to have personality. I feel the same.
I won't put words in Yed's mouth, but I find tennis to be a very ty sport and, in no way, inclusive of spectators. It appears stuffy, reserved and elitist. People just sit around and a lot of the coverage is on who is in the crowd or some other BS. The only thing that nearly appeals to me is a personality from the stars and I'm sure there are many aspects of life in which you feel the same. I'm sure you must like Bob Dylan or Johnny Lydon or Bruce Springsteen or John Lennon over, say Mariah Carey or Celine Dion.
The latter are the better singers but Dylan and Lennon are more likable and have more personality.
I feel the same about Tennis.

| Quote: MrF "Tennis can be avoided with skillful use of the remote control or by simply leaving the room in which the television is located
Tennis is more than a 2 week a year sport
The tennis player of today is a super fit athlete, capable of slugging out a 4 hour ++ match day after day.
Personally, I enjoy watching tennis, if only I had functioning knees, I would be out there playing as well !!
Finally - I hope Murray wins the thing on Sunday, not just for British tennis but also to see the facebook / twitter rants of Murray's No 1 hater, our very own DJ Birch
My sentiments to this sport, have been summed up in the first sentence.
Bar on the news, when I haven't got to my remote control quick enough, I haven't seen a single point of Wimbledon (or any tennis champs, for years)
What get's me, is the "what? you don't like Andy Murray/tennis (in general)" attitude of some people, and people in the media. I give zero f#cks about tennis, so I don't watch it. So why are people/the media so obsessed about shoving it down my throat, about 10 weeks a year. We aren't force fed the same tripe about equestrian sports (as an example, which Britain has a SUBSTANTIONAL better record at, compared to tennis).
Oh, and don't get me started on flabby armed, middle aged housewives from the Home Counties, who's sole interest in sport, is 2 weeks of tennis every year, and shouting "come on Tim/Andy/Greg/Jeremy/Buster/John", and waving a Union Jack. Get back to the kitchen, and make the tea, beehatches

| Murray for me highlights what has changed with the publics attitude to stars.
He is world class, and the best tennis player Britain has had since the thirties. Yet people don't like him because he isn't particularly personable.
Ridiculous.
If you know anything about sport you must appreciate what this guy has got. He is as tenacious as anyone in sport, his talent is up there with the very very best.
His only real weakness is that he can get despondent and negative in huge games.
For god's sake he has been as high as number two in the world and has been in the top four year after year. If you can't be proud of that then you are actively looking for negatives.
This means in world terms that he is better than any current superleague player.
I have heard British people say that they want Federrer to beat him tomorrow, and yet people also complain how crap British sport is.
Well Murray is world class, if you don't like him or can't get behind him, it says more about your negative, sulky attitude than his.
p.s Cheryl Cole is more popular, now there is talentless.

| Personally hope he gets hammered. Why the hell should i as an Englishman support someone who it is well known said he would be supporting all of Englands opponents in the world cup excusing himself for the remarks by saying "he's a typical Scot".Even Tim Henman said he was a disgrace so for me i hope to be seeing his miserable face crying like a baby tomorrow.

Are Super League players supposed to be good at tennis?
On a more serious note, you think he's amazing; great! However, we don't live int he 1930s anymore. There are more likeable, comfortable and witty tennis players out there. You talk about how great Andy Murray is at what he does. But, he isn't fighting a war, you know? He isn't doing you a service for nothing. He's playing a sport that is enjoyed by elitist s and, for two weeks a year, typical 'Go on England' 'sport' fans, with their, ironically, union flags and their strawberries and cream. Ultimately, people pay ,whether monetarily or with their time, to watch the sport, if they do at all, and if they want some genuine entertainment for their expense, so be it! Being good at tennis has very little to do with a person's likeability, which is what this boils down it.
If you want Britain to win at every sport, and that is all you want, then Murray is perfect for you and you can pin your hopes on him. However, if you want anything else, he's a miserable twunt, who doesn't play a particularly exciting game of tennis (well, of the little I have seen of the sport)

So what constitutes having a personality, being better looking? Tony smith doesn't have that much of a personality and comes across poor in his media interviews. Do we dislike him? No, cos he is fooking good at his job, just like murray.

| I only watch the women's tennis. It makes far easier viewing when you're half-aroused by the mere sound of the groans, then you see how good and tanned they are, it's must-see.
