Not really though

| What is it with Cas fans and this constant tone of "they will not be allowed to leave" or x player "will not leave Cas" or "it will take a world record fee". Gonk especially is desperately clinging on to the "Chase loves Cas, so he's never going to leave" rubbish
In reality, if a player from any of the lower placed teams gets wind of interest from a club who could realistically offer them trophies or other such success, then they will be off, whether the club likes it or not. Sure there will be a fee for contracted players, but world record money? Non.
It was the same with us in the years of Sculthorpe and Harris etc. It's just the way things are.

| So what kind of fee do you think it would take ?
The club are hard up. But not desperate to sell our prize assets.

Surely it would depend on length of contract left etc.. In all honesty, I remember when we used to talk up players coming through our ranks back in the 90's such as Highton, Alstead etc....and it's good that you can focus on these guys as there is little else to get excited about down the lower end of the table. That's not me being patronising, it's exactly where we were at the time. But it soon dawns that they're little more than flash in the plan unless coached correctly. If he was that amazing, several clubs would be fighting over him. I haven't seen much of him, but he looks pretty solid.

| Couple of hundred Ks for a good youngster, but not Fielden money who was at the top of his game, playing for a then top club when Wigan signed him.
I know it sounds somewhat arrogant what I am saying and I dont mean it like that, but in RL especially it's such a small pool of teams who can offer players the chance to win something, that it's inevitable that good players will typically end up at the top teams and only by inflation are we likely to see record fee's being broken for transfers.
You may see a world record fee for a club like Widnes to attract say O'Loughlin or similar.

Well it has been said that Bateman is a six figure sum. For arguments sake that is £200,000; then i'd say Clarke would be worth £275,000. I said we needed him at the end of last season for this season, we opted for Ratchford and brought through Gaz O'B and more importantly for Clarke's position Brad Dwyer.
For some reason i've never heard so many rumours regarding Warrington signing players of other clubs. Never. Can only be a good thing. There was a time that nobody wanted to sign for us.

How times have changed. 20 years ago everybody wanted to sign for Wigan.
Now everybody wants to leave Wigan.

| Daryl Clarke is a great young talent, he would make a great addition to our club BUT
My concern is what this type of signing would tell our young up and coming players, a lot of them listed in this thread the likes of Dwyer, Evans (both of em), Laithwaite, O'Brien, Helliwel, Burke not to mention Currie Etc (im sure there are loads of others not mentioned by me or others)
I would hope it would signal to them the clubs intention to stay at the top but would it also undermine them and their top flight aspirations. We need to be very creful I think.

| I doubt Cas would take less than 300k. But after that. Who knows.
Fwiw. They're talking about 350+ for Chase. Who is 26 and likeky to play 5 or 6 years at the club (So 60k per year on top of hus contract) or the same money for a much younger Clark who could give you 12years. The better value would be Clark.
I'd guess our Season Ticket sales would drop significantly if Clark was sold.

| Dreamland! £350k for an uncapped untried youngster? Even though I don't think he warrants it, at least Chase has an International to back up his price tag.

Didn't both Sculthorpe and Harris leave for world record fees at the time, though?

If he's the next Keiron Cunningham and Bateman is the next Paul Sculthorpe, it'll serve you well.
