| Quote: Paul Youane "Thing is he wasn't alright even then, he was still sh--e.
Sullivan was our worst ever signing. We have signed worse players but Sullivan was signed at a time when we weren't shopping in poundland any more and we needed our big overseas half-back signing to be the catalyst to the club kicking on. Instead we got Michael Sullivan a poor-man's Mark Gleeson.
Just thinking about Sullivan brings me out in cold sweats.'"
If we needed a big overseas halfback signing to be the catalyst to the club kicking on we shouldn't have signed Michael Sullivan. It would be like Wigan saying we need our big halfback signing to fill the boots of Brett Finch and then signing Matty Smith.
From what I remember the big halfback signing for 2006 was supposed to be Matt Orford till he signed for Manly, then we went for Michael Monaghan who had supposedly been displaced at Manly by Orford but Monaghan decided to stay and move to hooker (with great success) and so we were in the situation where we had left a lot of budget free for a big name halfback but were running short of options and ended up having to pick up what was available.
Possibly if you look for a turning point in Cullen's time as coach it could be signing Sullivan. We had just had our best ever SL season and we replaced Nat Wood with Sullivan, he was not up to the job as a halfback, and our Plan B of playing Briers and Bridge in the halves also failed as Bridge was not up to the job there either although he would later go on to be one of the best centres in SL. That was a big drag on us in 2006 and 2007.

| If we are talking about the biggest let down signing we have ever made than im struggling to think of anyone worse than Paul Rauhihi. We signed him when he won the prop of the year award for something like the 3rd year in a row down under. I still have nightmares about his offloads.

| With Rauhihi, does he fall into the same category as made a few posts above with Wainwright? Nobody really backed him up when he was offloading, now we can't get enough of them. Wrong place at the wrong time?
As for Sullivan, greatest memory of him is us chasing a game at home with time running out (can't remember who against), we're camped on the opposition line... Sullivan kicks the ball straight over the dead ball line without it even going near the field of play.

| Some absolutely bonkers names in this thread.
Wainwright? McCurrie? Marquet? Wilshere?
Most of these players suffered from the lack of quality around them, and if they failed it was because they didn't manage to transform a whole team. In Wilshere's case, he suffered Dallas Mead syndrome and was written off because of an injury. Unlike Mead, he was able to get a run in the side eventually and showed that we had missed a lot.
McCurrie was an odd beast: he had a slightly strange physique, but the lines he ran with good pace made him a cracking player for us at that time, one of the few that actually backed up the likes of Langer and Nikau.

| McCurrie holds the record for most tries scored in a season by a forward in the p&b, how does that make him a bad signing?
