Rhys williams is a Gary Hulse/John Thursfield/Mark Gleeson type player.

He'll spend most of his time in the A team at this club (and will be paid accordingly) but will do a job of sorts when asked to step up, but more often than not you hope we have other better players available.

Some nonsense spouted on here today! Rhys is not lazy and certainly hasnt got a poor attitude.

Thankfully the coaching staff do rate him highly; I think people forget how well he did to score his first try yesterday and like to dwell on the mistake near the end.

He has a lot of competition for a place in the side in his position and he just needs to be patient; he really is a cracking lad with a superb attitude.

Let's get behind the youngsters rather than trying to find fault all the time.

Williams is simply not good enough ! Riley has improved but not irreplaceable he's in no way a fullback !

Quote: mat_wire "This is clearly a wind up. I am Better winger than Williams. Bombs simple chances time and again, looks like he is running in quick sand when he gets in open field, can not take a high ball and can not defend. Awful error for the Salford try today, couldn't get anywhere near chasing back the intercept. The sooner he leaves for Widnes the better. There is no comparison between Williams and Riley. Riley is a true siperleague class winger/fb. Williams is neither of the above.'"

Walter, are you sure you know more than some of the great coaches on here?

His first try yesterday was an impressive finish but it's rare that I've seen much from him that makes me think he'll make it at the top of SL. Wasn't he supposedly the quickest player at the club? I've never seen any pace to be honest. Smith obviously does rate him though.

He's got pace for sure. I'm fairly sure he is quicker than Riley. Playing wing isn't really about pace anymore though. Presumably playing centre isn't either, as Atkins can't get in the England squad. Everytime I see Welham miss a tackle I just shake my head.

Back to Williams, the problem is he hasn't really had a chance. He clearly isn't top drawer, nor can Smith really rate him, otherwise he would force his way into the side. I just don't see anything in Riley to suggest he is much better than Williams. Riley has played well, and shouldn't be dropped, but don't see us missing him if he gets injured.
