With all due respect to the Huddersfield side of 2003, our current vintage is on another planet.

A second string Wire side would easily beat Swinton, but it would be showing them and the competition a lack of respect if we were to do this.

ANCW,

That team is strong and would give us a very good chnce of getting through to the next round.

Tyrone went on loan to Wakey for one month commencing 28th April. Unless it has been extended we could recall him.

The only change I would do to your team would be swap Grix and Bridge around and bring Tyrone onto the bench if he is avaiable.

All this talk of "that team would stand a very good chance of progressing to the next round" is a bit of an understatement.

The teams both of you have named would put at least 50 points past Swinton. Matches between teams like ourselves and anyone outside the top division are mere formalities.

Also to go back to a point raised by the OP, I can't understand the attitude of some people on here to football and it's supporters either. All this 'wendyball' nonsense, it's the most popular sport in the world for a good reason.

Oh I agree entirely on the strength of our team. I've also little doubt we will have a strong team out.

I have read with interest all the posts from you Warrington fans and I can see both sets of arguments with regard to the standard of team you play against my team Swinton.
What is evident is the fact that a few of you have forgotten that not so long ago Warrington were a side struggling to stay in this ridiculous set up we now have called Super league.I refer to the posts regarding your under 21's being fielded and being good enough to beat the Lions. When was the last time any of you lot went to a game outside of the protected haven of super league, there are many very very good teams knocking about who i suspect would be more than a match for your under 21's and to sugest anything otherwise smacks of arrogance.

When the Lions take to the field on Friday the majority will have just put in a full days work at their chosen job and will have done so all week unlike the Wire players, I know that is no fault of the Warrington club, but it has created a two tier Rugby league in this country. It might well be the time When Super League Europe branch off and leave the Championship and Championship one clubs to do there own thing.

Assuming you don't play a side to understrength I am under no illusions you will beat the Lions and if you do I hope to see your club at Wembley in August when I will join many others from the "have not's divisions" in celebrating a great old cup competition and a Wires win.

Sorry our current U20s team with three or four senior squad additions would be comfortably strong enough to beat Swinton.

I've been to see Swinton on a number of occasions and still maintain that a team predominantly encompassing our very strong Reserve players, whilst also including players who can't quite make it into the SL XIII (Clarke, Riley etc) and a forward to lead, should enjoy a comfortable win.

If memory serves correct, we played Swinton in pre-season 2 years ago and sent near enough an under 20's team and still won by 10pts against a full Swinton team. We are now in a stronger position than at the point and have players like Clarke, Riley, Williams, Evans, McCarthy to use and include.

In all likelihood, Tony Smith will play a very strong side with only those with knocks/fatigue sitting out, but playing a predominantly reserve side will stand us in better shape for the Rhinos match.

We'll see. icon_smile.gif

I am a bit perplexed about how selecting a squad to win the game would show 'disrespect' to Swinton?

Ideal game for us to introduce a number of the exciting U20s team we have at Warrington.

But neither of those teams are our u20s team. This week our u20 team was:

Chris Riley, Ben Hellewell, James Saltonstall, James Mendeika, Ryan Shaw, Bobbie Goulding, Gavin Williams, Jamie Peasnell, Jon Clarke, Jack Morrison, Liam Hulme, Ben Currie, James Laithwaite.

Subs:Brooke Broughton, Brad Dwyer, Glenn Riley, Andrew Finn

I wouldn't be putting much money on theat team beating Swinton; would you?

I'm sure that if some of us on here were the coach and you played the U20's on friday night then we'd we knocked out of the cup.
Lets jsut let TS decide. He's the coach, not us lot. Yes you can have your opinion but ultimatley it's down to Smith. I'm sure he will rest a few players but will still have a strong team out, which will include the likes of Carvell, Atkins, Bridge and King.

Spot on mark_m.

I think I mentioned it in the OP or following post, we simply just have to do enough to win.

And add Evans, McCarthy, Blythe, O'Brien and Williams to that and i'd expect a 20/30pt margin.

Clear choice of additions to the young squad would be Solomona, LAnderson (injury dependent), Clarke, Higham, King (all for match fitness/ form reasons). I suspect playing O'Brien and Briers would be a good idea as well so they can work on their partnership before the Leeds game.

Evans and Blythe surely to play.

Beg to differ and of course it is all about opinions but you are doing a disservice to all lower league players with that comment.

It's not ideal in any way, but it's just the reality. The gap between SL and Championship never mind Champ 1, is massive. And an SL team's 20's are better than many sides in the Championship.

Don't forget that last round Swinton beat Dewsbury away from home. That's the same Dewsbury that Broughton has struggled to get a place in their team over recent weeks.

I note also that Stewart is playing on the bench for Rochdale at the moment yet was a regular for our u20s before his dual-role started.

People shouldn't under-estimate the standard of players in the National Leagues.
