| I used to travel into the city centre on the train around 4 times a week for University and then for Man Utd games. Sometimes from Central and on the odd occasions from Bank Quay. If there were delays they weren't too long, and if you do need to stand it's not a long journey. Better than battling the motorway then finding parking.
It has been 5 years this year since I finished Uni, so I don't know what it's like now.

| Depends really what time you need to be in work for and where abouts in the City centre it is?
I used to travel from Birchwood to the Palace Hotel on Oxford Road 5 days a week by car, leaving between 7am and 7.15am meant I would be in work for between 7.45 and 8.15am. If Man U are at home during the week it could be a nightmare trying to get back to the M602 to get home so for your sake let's hope they get knocked out of the Champions League soon!!
I'm not really a morning person so the fact I didn't have to acknowledge people meant that the car was always my prefered option!

| The offices are on Oxford Road near Manchester Uni/Business School.
I would guess it'll be either 9-5 or 8-4.

| I spent a year commuting to the city centre before moving there. I lived in Thelwall so it was easier for me to drive to Alti and then get the Metrolink. They're every six minutes so I didn't have to stress and rush to make the station for a particular time.
I also drove in for a couple of months on the 56 then princess parkway. Prefered the stress freeness of the Met but oddly prefered driving to Manc than driving into Warrington in the morning

| I have just been offered a job in Salford Quays, it is £5k a year more plus an additional upto 5K bonus a year. I currently work in Woolston and takes 15 mins to get to work, is it worth the hassle commuting to Salford Quays for the money?
Anyone else commute to Salford Quays, how long does it take from Burtonwood on the M62.

| I work right opposite Victoria station which is near the MEN arena...trains from Central or bank quay dont go to Victoria Otherwise I'd get that.
In the past Ive got the train to Oxford road and walked 15 minutes to our offices but the price of a return ticket the lack of seats and the extra time doing the longish walk means the car gets me there at the same time and for a couple of quid cheaper.
like many have stated leave it late and you'll get stuck in traffic. I drive through Birchwwod and get on the 62 there at junction 11 thats a massive time saver. If i get on the motorway at no later than 10 to 8 I can be at the end of the 602 (the regent road roundabout) for usually 5 past 8 I then scoot down backstreets and park up and get in the office for 25 past 8.
getting homes a different story though

not a massive amount but usually an extra 15 to 20 minutes longer than the drive in,
the journey this morning took me 45 minutes exactly from leaving my drive to getting to my desk. thats about average and it "feels" quick due to the lack of stop start traffic.
the journey home feels even longer because I hit Queues almost from the moment I leave the car park... the 602 outbound is a pain up near the junction with the m60 and often the 62 outbound can just carry on being stop start all the way through to the junction with the M6.
Ive come home through Irlam many times when the 602 has been bad.

| I do it regularly from J8 to near Victoria
In order of preference:
Bike - easy commute, free parking
Train - £7 a pop and be prepared to stand all the way
Car - have to be on the M62 before 7:30, central Manchester parking is not cheap

| I have done the commute for 3 years now from Latchford to Machester city (Ducie Street next to piccadilly). Done the train a couple of times but sometimes it can be late and you stand all the way. On top of this, part of my benefits at work is a Fuel Card so i do not have to pay for my fuel but would have to pay to park my car then get the train (£10 a day)
I drive and it is very dependant on traffic obviously. I have generally found that between Feb school holidays and Oct school holidays the roads are good and I can do the commute from Knutsford road to M62 J11 (avoid J9-J10 at all costs) then on to manchester in around 35 minutes. During Oct-Feb I find it takes around 45-50 minutes. However on a really bad day it has taken me 90 minutes but bear in mind i work next door to piccadilly.
Salford Quays isn't such a bad commute as it is just at the end of the M602 and the right hand lane is usually flowing at around 30-40 mph.
With the offer of 5k-10k for an extra 20 minutes drive I would definately do it in the current climate if the company you are moving to is offering a secure position. £300+ a month extra would be bliss (or £240 dependant on tax band)

| Unfortunately it is going to move me up to the next tax band.....
I feel privilleged to be offered the job and is a permament role which is what i wanted as i am permanent at my current job. I hear that they are flexible on working so if you can get in early you leave early. Just waiting to hear from them today, and then i can hand my notice in to my boss....can't wait!
Thanks for the info....!

I can see your neck of town from my desk Biscuit. We could go for a beer pre match (assuming you don't still want to batter me).
