You are to right but I would say since John Bevan not Brian Bevan and its not that he is poor player and I would like him to stay but I'll belive it when I see it.

| some times the level of feck wit' ness on this board reaches new levels.........
a 33 year old Australian with No rep honours in is own country has now become the feckin messiah of all Wingers
John Bevan was a Challenge cup winning winger in 1974 plus a $hit load of other descriptions Chris Hicks couldnt hope to get near
Christ I'd put Thackray above Hicks
is this how low we sink in England?
we view an ordinary Winger through Australian glasses and he's the best thing weve ever had.........the blokes about to retire for god's sake
Wigan in the 80's would have got rid of him on his 30th Birthday.....
oh thanks Chris youve saved our season I dont know how we would have coped without you the best winger since Brian Bevan ......
goodnight i'm off to spew up.....

....He's a good player, no doubt, but this is just ridiculous....John Bevan was a lot better winger than Hicks will ever be.....The likes of Dessie, Phil Ford and even Richard Henare were certainly a match for him.
Realistically, Hicks is a good, honest pro, who deserves to be remembered favourably, but let's not go overboard on how great he really is.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment of the post, I do think it is slightly over the top!
On the bit in bold though, not sure why that needed highlighting, as Hicks was a Challenge Cup winning winger in 2009.

| I know it won't be a popular view on here but imo Hicks is a better winger than Drummond, Forster or Henare.
Saying Henare was a great winger is like saying Graham Appo was great. They were both fast and dangerous when they were fit which was about one full season each. Henare's second year he was a shadow of the player he was in 96, people forget that because he got sacked half way through.
Drummond was hard and a great competitor but overall he wasn't as classy a finisher as Hicks. Same with Forster, I missed the start of his career so possibly missed his best years but for what I saw he was another good clubman but not in Hicks' quality. I would definitely have Hicks in my all time Warrington team from players I've seen (1989 onwards)

Yes it does. I had heard a rumour from inside the club that Hicks might be offered a new contract. so it looks like Vinnie is the only one to leave out of the current squad & Hodgson is our only signing - unless Smithy has something up his sleave?

I agree. Hicks is technically superb. The vast majority of ex Warrington wingers (that I've seen since the late 70's/early 80's) would not be able to score some of the tries that Hicks manages. I hope that we can find a way to keep him next season but a quota player [ihas[/i to go to allow that. Che will make the right decisions

| Henare's famous try v Saints when he ran through the scrum onto a Scully offload from the base - only 2 wingers I have seen play for Wire would have had the pace to score that, Henare & Penny. Henare's 2nd season was mainly spent in a doped up stupor though...

| I have to agree, been watching the game since 82 and IMO Hicksy is one of the best finishing wingers we have had. Saying that we haven't had an abudance of great wingers, unlike Saints, Leeds, Wigan and Bradford have had over the years. Its somewhat a luxury to have 2 class wingers at a club.

or alternatively we view a quality athelete through the "he must be inferior to any player from a previous era" glasses and dismiss him outright as belonging on our roll call of great players
but i must admit it would be nice to have someone as entertaining and charismatic as dessie in the side
hicks is solid and rarely makes mistakes, which i reckon is probably one of the most valuable assets for a winger in today's game, and is a brilliant finisher close to the line to boot and so for the super league era he's absolutely head and shoulders above anything else we've had which for me is a decent argument for ranking him alongside the wingers who were head and shoulders above the rest in their respective eras
