Who knows? Top?
Steve Folkes is a good coach with a proven record in the NRL. I remember reading a stat when it was announced he was leaving Canterbury that over the past 8-10 years or something, only Bennett had a better overall win/loss record than Folkes.
Having said this, if the reason we held off on getting Folkes in 2007 was because we informally had Smith lined up for 2009, hence the stop gap of Lowes when Cullen quit, then I would have rather had Smith than Folkes because there's always the unknown factor of how a good NRL coach will transfer to SL, and Smith was proven in SL.
Where would we have been with Cullen in charge? I reckon we would have finished higher in the table last year for starters. With last year's favourable Challenge Cup draw - could we have won the Cup under Cullen? not impossible! We would not however be the consistent unit we are now though.

I don't believe we would have won the Cup under Cullen last season. I don't think we would have handled the pressure of the HKR game sufficiently.

TBH I'm also not convinced Hull KR away and Wigan in the semis should necessarily be classed as a favourable draw!

| Smith is a genius.
There isn't anything I dislike about him, he's awesome. I think if he came to my house, I'd just want him to read me a story, y'know. I reckon he'd be top at the voices.

Indeed.
We had to beat Hull KR, Wigan and Huddersfield. That cup took some winning.

I think i'd let him sleep with my wife, he'd probably improve her performance too.

It'd be dead subtle too, he wouldn't be throwing her about like. Just tweaks here & there that we'd struggle to notice (well, you). He'd get in her head too, tell her she's amazing like y'know.
He'd get the basics right first, then look to add some skill.

But all teams we used to beat under Cullen
We won a trophy without having to beat either of the top two teams in the league. When was the last time that happened, other than for a team who already was one of the top two teams in the league?

If you look at it that way then yes, it was a favourable draw by avoiding Leeds and St Helens.

We didn't have the best record against Hull KR in the cup.
I'm sorry but at 24-12 down at Hull KR, under Cull, we'd have been dead & buried. That "if they score again ..." and it would have just happened.
That's the fixture last year where the change in leadership showed for me. The semi & final, well, they went to plan really, but it's when the chips are down.
I can remember a game against Hull KR at home, not so long back that we had sewn up, somehow, and I mean somehow, they scored something daft like 18 pts in the last five minutes and won the game, we were cruising.
