| Back to Hodgson, I want him and I want him now. I'd love to see his debut be at Edinburgh next week & him kicking 9/10 on day-boo.

| From what I've heard he will sign Hodgson but for next year, Mathers will leave but not to Hudds and Penny will probably stay at Quins. I know that's off topic but ah well! Plus we will either train up Williams to be a starting winger or sign someone unexpected (not a superstar!).
As for Hodgson how can anyone say no to the reigning Man of Steel?!

| Quite easily, 32, getting past his best, getting injured more often. This is still a daft rumour. People have put 2 and 2 together and got 17. The most ridiculous idea was that we should sign him now. We can't. Our quota is full. He wouldn't qualify to play in cup matches. Seb is right. why do people keep asking the same questions re the overseas quota?

| I just can't see TS going for Hodgson on a 2 year deal at the age of 33 (thats how old he'd be next season).
What other options are there if we don't offer Mathers a new contract ?

| If Hodgson had signed for us last year, rather than Hudds, and won MoS for us etc, would we be keen on offering him a new deal for the next couple of years or would we be wanting to cut him?

Why is this because he's 32. He's still the best FB in the league IMO. He's 32 and still coming up with great consistent performances.

Too old, he will cost the club to much in wages for a player whom best years are behind him.

| Too old, jesus. How old was Langer ? How old is Menzies ? Christ, there's not a jott of fat on the fella.
He's a cracking player, will be a cracking signing & will add a huge amount to our team, no doubt on & off the field. We've a pretty decent prospect lurking in the wings in Rhys Evans who I'm sure will appreciate working at close quarters with Brett.
As much as I like Mathers - he's limited. He simply can't do what Hogdson can do, he can ghost between defenders, he can put himself at the line and create, he kicks goals for fun, has one of the best goal-line defences in SL, looks a good communicator (something we've praised Mathers for & need to maintain), has clearly looked after himself. I can't see what the negatives are ?
Folk are too quick to push 'injuries' forward, Bridge, Grix, Solomona, Carvell, Morley - They all get them, and they all have periods where they stay relatively injury free. It's the chance you take, age isn't a factor is it.
We're literally, literally in danger here of finding neagtives about signing the best Fullback in SL. Madness.

You answered your own question. Age is a factor in injuries in sports, it's biology, you can't oppose it. Brett Hodgson is in terrific shape and has obviously looked after himself to a very high standard. But anyone who has literally spent 14 years of their life being smashed around a rugby league field at the standard Hodgson has played at will have done damage to that body.
Most players get to a point where they can no longer recover from one game to play at the same standard in the next. I'm not saying it has happened to him yet, but there is that risk. IF he signs for Warrington it will be because he's after money, there is no other motivation to a guy who has been in the game as long as Hodgson. He has settled well in Yorkshire and they have superb facilities and a top class coach. The only difference would be that either you would have offered him more money or that you had offered him a longer contract. If his current club, the one he's played so well for, won't give him two years I would at least be wondering why. Huddersfield do have a few youngsters with superb potential so perhaps thats the reason.
It would be a good signing for Warrington purely because he's so much better than Richie Mathers. But it's not quite the brilliant news that your club signing the MOS would normally be purely because it's not a long term signing. If he signed, this time next season there would be threads about how the club was planning to replace him.
A good question for you is would you rather sign Brett Hodgson for 2 years at 33 (He will be by the time next season starts I believe?) or Gareth Widdop at 21? One will be superb for one and possibly two years or would you sign a player with the potential (But no guarantee) to be a club great over a decade and more? With the likes of Briers, Morley, Hicks and Carvell etc all moving towards retirement (The first three of them due to age and Carvell due to his injuries throughout his career) and with the likes of King, Monaghan and the Andersons all off home as part of the natural cycle of overseas stars, it could be that Warrington have to go into the dreaded 'rebuilding phase' just as their spell at potentially the very top of the game has started.
Is there the risk that Warrington are going all out for short term success? I can only really see Myler and Harrison who are of the age and potential to be players to form a squad around.
