Competition for places, strength in depth.
Love it, love it!

But it's debatable as to who's a better all round FB. Mathers' kick returns are superb. No side way running bo11ocks etc. Straight, direct and tough! Both are partial to the odd brain fart in terms of high kicks though.'"
mathers never makes it past the first man on kick returns, i'm not saying riley is guarenteed but you have a bit more faith that he's going to trouble the chasers more.
if this was back end of last season i'd happily be giving mathers the nod, he was a breath of fresh air at FB compared to the non entity situation that has existed since 2005 and grose having the season of his life.
I suppose its 50/50 for both of them, but i give riles the edge as he's got the shirt, its up to him to lose it.
On a similar point(cringe) if he's fit, does briers come back into the team next week, the obvious answer is yes, whether its the smart thing or not, i don't know. We've done ok without him so far...should we disrupt whats currently working?

How many times has Lee Briers been on a side that has beaten St Helens? How many times have we seen a semi-fit Lee Briers tormented by demons during games against Saints, before eventually going off injured once Saints put it beyond doubt.
If he isn't completely fit, Warrington should leave him out. He's no way near as important as people make out.

| i just wouldn't change a winning team, and oddly after my comments in recentt weeks, that also includes VLANDERSON who both played a lot better last night IMO.

| Grix is excellent and he doesn't need to pass it every time. He does well enough. However, our kicking game is not up to scratch without Briers, so Briers has got to play.

| i'm leaning towards it, i really am, i know someone else on here has said how grix and myler were quiet second half, but monas i think came on after we started taking control, and grix is doing a lot of organizing. There were a few people ed off at him in the first half when he put that kick through on the second, i wasn't too bothered, i'm happy for him to be backing himself if he feels the chance is there, and king wasn't too far away from that and sherrife was.
i'd also as saddened as said take the briers/saints emotion thang out of it, thoguh i've never subscribed to that personally as i've seen lee take them apart on one leg a few years back, saints still won and the focus was still on briers choking at KR again, i'd rather keep that out,
though as said, if he's fit, smith will put him straight back in.

Arguably not, although its almost certain he will play. Whilst we have struggled to function without Briers in recent years (and I do have to point out that I'd happily see him play till his 70's if it were possible), on evidence of the last few games, I've seen enough to think that may be changing. And its very heartening to realise this.
Personally I think Briers will have the game of his career next week though. I just got that feeling.

| I like Grix, but not at halfback. I think It's because I've been spoilt watching Briers for so long. I expect everyones brain & hands to work as quickly as Lee's does, so when there's a mortal at halfback, it frustrates me.
When I review Grix in reality - he does a cracking job at halfback.
When I review him replacing Briers - I want him arrested.

| What about Grix and Briers at half back and Myler on the bench?

Spot on. There doesn't seem to be as much flair in attack without Briers but the strange thing is, we're finally improving in other areas therefore we're a solid team across the board without him.
Its crazy.
