Quote: CloughieWire "Im also looking forward to all the squad kicking on. especially the fact that now we can put 'talent' into all of our ball playing positions;

FB - Mathers
SO - Briers
SH - Myler
HK - Monaghan (will be vital this season)
LF - V.Anderson, Grix

Also ive noticed we only have 3 wingers in the first team does this mean we might be seeing the welsh lad especially if penny is out on loan??
Do you honestly think that Mathers is a talent. To be honest I think that he is a very average full back. I like his motivational side that he brings but he hardly inspires confidence. My opinion anyway.

Every year, I hope we are going to have two creative half backs, so you can guess where I'm looking for something special.

All 3 are superb signings in my opinion and I cant wait to see them all in the PandB

Solomona is my pick. Relatively un-noticed signing, little pressure, or expectation. Unlike the other two. He'll be a fans favourite.

As an outsider and after watching him rip us apart in the CC semi final i'd have to say Monaghan will be Warringtons most important and probably best player in 2010. He will have had a full pre season getting used to playing at 9 and will be able to fully settle into the position knowing that you have 2 out and out halfbacks now meaning he can just concentrate on his own game at hooker.

I'd back him to have a huge year.

have to agree fully, looking forward to also seeing Solomona, after years of him ripping us apart i think if he stays injury free then we could have a Gem. Also with the signings of Myler & Atkins, many people have forgot about him and so a lack of pressure on him

David Solomona, if he can regain his fitness and recover fully from his shoulder injury then we have a potential world class impact player that can change a game.

I`m presuming he`ll be used as an impact player from the bench in the early stages until he can prove his fitness, Saints and Leeds have had great impact from the bench in years gone by, Fasavalou at his peak and Ali Lauitiiti at Leeds who could both come on and change games.

Solomona is a match winner in his own right just like Ali Lauitiiti, its not often this type of player becomes available and its well worth the risk in chancing his shoulder will make a full recovery.

It's all very exciting again isn't it. Half back is the one for me. It is the be all and end all of our Briers reliance.

Cover across all positions looks excellent for me & reassuringly we won't be over-reliant on one person allowing all players opportunity to shine & be picked on form not name...

FB Mathers/Hicks/Riley/Bridge
Wing Hicks/Riley/King/Atkins/Bridge/Penny
Centres King/Atkins/Bridge/Grix/V Anderson/Blythe
Halves Briers/Myler/Bridge/Grix/ V Anderson/Monaghan/Clarke/Higham
Props Morley/Carvell/Wood/Cooper/Westwood/Harrison/Neal
Hookers Monaghan/Clarke/Higham/Thompson/Grix/L Anderson/Bridge
Back row Solomona/ L Anderson/ V Anderson/Westwood/Harrison/Bridge/Blythe/Mitchell/McCarthy/Clarke/Bridge

Plenty of quality competition for all places on the park.

When I think about it. Whilst going back and to down various motorways, the half back situation is ALWAYS one of the main topics of discussion. I got really excited about Monas though, he made me so angry! Come on Richie Myler!

Soon be boxing day.

I think it makes a change from recent years when we have just had an extra winger at full back. hasnt mathers played SO at amateur level before? i also remember him filling in a few times in that position at leeds some must have some creative talent according to smith.

Mathers played one game at 6 for us against Wakefield iirc.

He didn't look a natural in the position but he has played there for Wigan, Leeds and England acadamy I think.

I'm sort of intrigued by the Jon Clarke thing. I thought he was starting to show some form prior to injury, sprinting home in France etc. It's not that i'm excited to see him or anything, just interested as to what'll happen with the abundance of nines, so that interests me.

A Kevin Penny re-birth would be nice, sort of 2007 with ball in hand, but with a game sense & awareness we've not seen before, I haven't given up on him yet.
