Good call Billy.
BTW ... what do you reckon bout them Celtics for next year? Can they hack it with the Cavs? or even the Magic, let alone the Lakers?

| I really think we should be pushing for the top 8.
The attitude that now we've won the cup so the league isn't important really irritates me. We should be of the opinion that now we've won the cup we certainly capable of going on a great playoff run. We shouldn't be settling for one or the other, we don't have to sacrifice the league to compete in (and win) the cup. Truly sucessful teams do both.
I feel confident, as someone said above, that if we can make the 8 we'll have a really good bash at it and do well. We've shown we can handle the pressure and compete in these winner-takes-all games.

See my reply to Wire71 last week.
It isn't about the league not being important, it's about a sense of perspective. Of course I'd love to see us win every game until mid-October and win at OT, but to expect this team, now, to reproduce the same sort of form as Saturday's on such a short turnaround is nothing short of ridiculous.
Even the very best sides have underperformed in the week(s) after Wembley, so how can our work-in-progress side go and do it?
We'll try, but we won't get there. Hull KR are a great side with a proud home record and an excellent coach. They'll have had two weeks to prepare. They'll beat us.
We will almost certainly walk all over Quins at the HJ, but it wont be enough. We must and will play with pride in the shirt until our SL season is over, and prepare with new optimism for 2010 with the knowledge that we can win trophies and perform on the big stage.

i agree not only do we have to go to KR who have a great home record we need other teams to do us a favour. even if all those things happen we also have 3 away games and a GF to play so we only have to win the next 6 games in a row with only one being at the HJ. Do i want it to happen yes, will it happen no.

Historically, you are correct. However, I am hoping TS can instill new found levels of confidence post-Saturday to put the Cup Final on repeat for the next two weeks. Is it stretching the realms of possibility; probably yes.

| i don't really care whether or not we are in the playoffs. at least one win from the next two games will make me satisfied. the team have come a long way this season and let tony have pre-season with them, they will create havoc next season im sure. i have a stragest feeling wire will not want to let the challenge cup go...

You've kinda missed my point. I do agree with most of what you have said. I don't "expect" us to win the last two games, make the play-offs and run all the way to the final. My point was we should be trying for it. We've complained for years that Wire are mediocre, settle for just good enough instead of striving for the best. Now we've got the opportunity to do that and people are moaning that we should be forgetting about the play-offs. My point wasn't that I think we should be making the GF, my point was I think we should be trying to and proving to ourselves most importantly, but the rest of the league too, that the CC wasn't just a one-off. The Wire are are going to be successful and my word they had better watch out for us next season!

I agree totally, I haven't seen anyone saying we shouldn't try.

I'm with you on this one. I was heartened to read Richie Mathers tweet yesterday which said he was doing extra training after having an early night on the homecoming, so he was ready for training today. That is exactly the sort of attitude we need.
We should aim to win every game we play and whilst there is a chance of making the playoffs we should have that as our goal. I think TS will be of the same mindset.

I still can't see anyone saying we shouldn't try, and that's certainly not what I said.
It's just not the end of the world if we don't get there.

Yes, me too. The physical drain exerted by a game like Saturday's must not be underestimated, however, and although the players are still running on adrenaline from winning there, there's a good chance it'll hit them hard sometime this week.
Hope I'm wrong.
