A Fan I haven't heard the quote, but for anyone to say people are not supporters because they don't always go is nonsense.
From the OP I read it to be about the attitude of fans/supporters that he was referring to, yet people soon turn it into a true fan thing about going through thick and thin.
I don't go to that many away games now, partly becasue I don't want to. I still pay into Squadbuilder, buy a season ticket, merchandise etc. and never turn my back on them, so stop talking rubbish.

we had many season at wilderspool that were terrible and we stuck by them where was all these speckies then?'" Perhaps a lot of them couldn't afford it.
Perhaps parents wouldn;t take their kids to Wilderspool because it was a dive whereas the HJ has more seats.
Perhaps the club have pulled their finger out with promoting the team?
Just because somebody has only recently started going doesn;t make them any less of a fan/supporter.

People didn't want to pi$$ in a gutter, or have no chance of getting food or drink in the ground, or have a restricted view, or have a stadium with three sides.

If you had you would have noticed it was full of die hard SUPPORTERS who gave up their night and money to support squadbuilder and the club and I would have said it was full of people whom the majority had supported them for a lot longer than you have !

Don't take it personally 71, he's not questioning your manhood, he's only seeking to draw a disctinction between different types of spectators.
It's a moot point anyway - the reality is that if only the die hards turned up, we wouldn't amount to very much. Every club needs their 'walk up' support.
I think Che is right - the only comment I'd make is that he's got it the wrong fan round, isn't 'fan' short for 'fanatical'? Shouldn't that label be applied to the 'thick and thing' supporters?

| any successful sporting club needs fans and supporters,a loyal hardcore following needs supplementing by people who attend as and when.people react differently to results but everyone reacts the same to lack of effort,i don't think we'll see much of that under ts now,did everyone there last night at some point boo a cullen side of the pitch,i did and i would do it again if i thought they weren't trying.

Bit close to the truth was he fella, seems to have hit a raw nerve with you this one, TS was spot on about the fans and supporters scenario, people have there own take on what constitutes a fan and a supporter but TS was right about the two categories in general.

Celtic, Had every intention of going however my young lad was going to France with school leaving at 11pm and I couldn't risk not getting back on time.
I have however supported the club through the bad times and hopefully will when the good times arrive.
I dont have a problem with however people choose to follow the club, if they only watch 1 game a season they are as good a fan of the club as myself or anyone else.
I was simply acknowledging that i thought TS take on it was correct. Only an oppinion.'"
Part-time, glory hunting band wagon jumper. Why don't you stay away and leave the team to the real supporters.

I think because there would only be 52 people at every game.

I didn't make my point very well because I was annoyed at the time. I did not attend but I understand the point to be as shown below. In relation to this point my view is that it is the supporters/fans job to make clear what is acceptable and what isn't when considering the performance on the pitch. This is often achieved through staying away and booing/not clapping etc. It is also the supporters/fans job to salute achievement and to cheer the team on. In the dark days of early 2009 the team always came out to rapturous applause only for themselves to put in a performance which deserved derision.
I am of the belief that the reaction of the crowd at the Cas home game in 2008 made PC's position untenable, and quite rightly so for all the reasons we have discussed. That team deserved to be booed off, as it did at Harlequins this year when they clearly turned it in.
I took exception to Tony Smith's comments as he hasn't experienced the dross that we have over the last n years and in no position to comment on what it is like to be a Warrington fan. Those fans who do/did boo have watched Warrington long before his arrival, and will do long after he has gone.
So in summary, yes support your team, but also you need to voice dissatisfaction too when it is merited.
Quote: Ian [77] "tony smith was quick to mention about the difference between fans and supporters. He said we should give credit to the players when we lose and not just when we win. the fans are the ones that go to the games when we are winning and boo them when we lose and the supporters are the ones that support the team through thick and thin whether we are top of the league or bottom of the league.'"
