Darlings of Super League:

Mathers played well, but he still has a lot of work to do convince me that he doesn't go missing when the going gets tough. Riley is a better fullback than winger and doesn't deserve to lose his place.

Nice to have options, however.

I wouldn't read to much into this personally, Mathers positions are one and six. Riley's are one and two/five. Riley was a better fit on the wing for the good of the team. That simple.'"

I dont get this idea that Mathers is a 6. I dont ever recall him playing there at Leeds, nor at Wigan. I dont know what he did in Aus but I just dont get where this idea of him being a 6 has come from?

His loan spell for us as a 17/18 year old was pretty much all at six.

At 6, his defensive frailties can be more easily covered over, while putting him where he wants to be in attack, bang in the middle. One thing he does well is back up the man with the ball, and that's what a 6 does.

He has decent footwork and pace. You know, like a 6.

Well you should have bought a decent fullback who can tackle rather than buying a turd fullback and shoving him at 6 to hide his deficiencies.

why?

Because I dont agree that a guy that has spent his entire senior squad career as a fullback has overnight been turned into a stand off? He may or may not become a good 6 but I dont understand why so many people in so many different threads say it with certainty as if this is one of his positions that he plays when he has barely played it.

Who has said he is a stand off? He can play one and six, there is no exclusivity . It is hardly groundbreaking stuff. Harris did it ten years ago.

By your reckoning Wellens shouldn't have played centre, nor Eastmond fullback, last week.
