there you are, last season. why not take into account their form so far this season, which is very good?
it amazes me how so called fans look for the negatives and make us sound as bad as possible.

| I don't think that there is anything to WORRY about,No relegation ,3yrs franchise, top manager on board that's enough to get me through this season.
Next season all the deadwood will have been cast into the wilderness and a new team will have risen from the ashes maybe we should change the team name to WARRINGTON PHOENIX. Instead of Wolves.
I can see Monaghan being the next out of the door, anyone could have done better than him today which surprises me seeing as he wants to go back to the NRL best RL comp in the world (my ass it is ) any NRL team that watches any of his performances this or last season will run a mile in the opposite direction I can see us farming him out to Widnes just to get rid let Cullen have him back seeing as he was the one who saddled us with the donkey !
KEEP THE FAITH BOYS !
only 18 more visits to the dentist before the end of the season

The one about us losing the franchise, is not going to happen. We've got the stadium, facilities and a junior development programme better than most of the others, and this will keep us in even if we have some poor seasons on the field. Leigh haven't got a chance of a franchise, Widnes have a slim chance and I think more credibly Toulouse will have a strong bid in 2011....the vulnerable clubs are going to be the ones who scraped through with Grade C franchise applications last time not a Grade A like us.
Warrington will turn things around now. The decisions that needed to be made have been made, the right people are on board steering the ship now, Smith heading up the first team and Bastian the junior set up.
Tony Smith has inherited the legacy of a number of years of poor decision making. If we were still in a relegation system then I think a few short term signings would come in to steady the ship but now we're in an Australian system he'll approach it like the Aussie coaches do when they come to struggling clubs and lay down foundations that take a while to kick in. In his first season as a head coach at Hudds, he lost the first 15 games of the season, and in the final 13 games they picked up six wins and a draw - if that form had been repeated over the full season they'd have been in the top six, but it meant they finished with the wooden spoon which then meant relegation. There's no relegation for us this season.
I think we should sit back chill out and view this as an opportunity to have a season where the results don't matter as much as finding things out about players. Smith will have a number of new players coming in 2010 who will improve the side, but he is going to need to select a core of existing players to take the club forwards....the rest of this year will decide who.'" Excellent post.

If you don't enjoy it, don't come
I don't get to a great deal of matches as I am not willing to travel as far as others do but when I saw Salford beat us i didn't boo, I was just happy enough that i had witnessed the match.
(just read my post back and i sound like a mentalist, but it is still true)

| Given performances so far this year, one is tempted to think that maybe PC was a genius coach to get this lot to perform even occasionally as well as they did. More importantly, the dead end in skill we seem to have reached does show that probably the weakest area of PC's coaching ability was judgment of player quality. King ( although he fooled plenty of other coaches , too), Monaghan, Rauhihi, the Andersons, Bridge and others are clearly quite ordinary players once removed from teams of giants around them. I agree with sally cinnamon that there is little point in making emergency changes now. By season end a large group of players will be out of contract and I think we may see seven or eight leave, four or five new British players brought in, a couple of substitutions of big-ticket Aussies and the promotion of one or two juniors to the first team squad.
For 2009, we need to accept that teams like Cas who did their own rebuilding in previous seasons are clearly better than we are, so no point in booing when we lose to a team that is obviously superior.

Sally I totally agree with your well reasoned post from a rugby perspective, however I am concerned about the business implications of effectively giving up on this season in the pursuit of "jam tomorrow".
Just the loss of revenue from turnstyle receipts alone concern me. For example the same fixture against Castleford in May 2006 had an attendance of 9,508 compared with yesterday's 8,202. What is worse is that I suspect Castleford brought a lot more travelling support this year than then due to Easter and their recent performances.

I would say that is open to debate, the West Stand was about a third full indicating a crowd of about 1200. When I looked across I thought the away crowd was quite sp relative to usual Cas following. Add to that, they had come off a bit of a spanking on Good Friday.
That said, away crowds should have no bearing on the overall attendance, as your core support should be more than enough to overcome any small attendance from away supporters.
Commercially, we are fighting for a slice of a shrinking pie, it is unfortunate that we sweeping through with a new broom in such difficult times.

Yes this will work. If you are unhappy don't bother coming. Next game 2000 attendance. Next season no money,no players, no hope. Season after that lose the franchise. Season after that the true supporters can watch the team bump around the National Leagues.
Genius.
