Yes, it would have been great for him and a proud day for the Wire, had he led us out at at Wembley, and exercised some of the demons of 1990 and his eight match ban. Alas, it didn't happen, but that didn't take anything away from the elation felt in 2009 after a 35 year wait.
I would require copious amounts of industrial strength cheese before going to bed, to even dream of Gary Hulse going the length of field at Wembley!'"
I might be on my own but i would have him in the halves atm. Dec i believe has more talent but he goes missing too much.
Maybe i have my rose tinted glasses on about the past.
Maybe we played a more expansive game , so we cant compare.
Or maybe the game itsself was more expansive, and is currently over scripted/coached? X

| I believe he resigned from the Director of Rugby position at Widnes, and left the club some years back.

That sounds a bit like "I've got a good bunch of guys here, I've just got to get them away from the coaching of Smith & Agar and get them playing how I want."
Which, given that we got to 2 finals, sounds like a positive notion to build on.

| Good afternoon,I’ve been reading this forum for years & thought I’d finally join & post a comment!
I’d go for getting GOB back to play along side Austin &keep Patton/Smith as back up hooker for Clarke & keep Ratch at full back & if anything happens to Ratch GOB can cover full back,I’d also give Johnson a few run outs next season & play Smith more but at half back which is his favoured position & played that when we signed him but hasn’t been given the opportunity there, think he could be like Burrow given the chance

Smith is only here because his dad was boss. Anyway, Danny will be here next season.

| I'm surprised this thread has lasted so long. I most definitely heard Steve Price say (a few weeks back) that Kev Brown was signed up and playing next year. So I don't really see the point of so much daydreaming about who we might sign. Mind you you never know!

I thought that was the whole point of the forum? How else would we get through the off season?

| Yep ... it makes sense now. Matty Russell was main gripe ... then Roberts ... so who's next. That flaming Brown! Oh and Atkins can't pass.
The joy of life shines through.

Yep we do tend to focus on the weak links in the side. Still it could be much worse - we could be complaining about the forum and it's members.
PS I can't imagine you clicked on a thread titled "Kev Brown" expecting to see outbursts of idolatry and veneration from forum members in abject rapture, so in truth you only have yourself to blame.

Yep ... I think you are right. Mind you a scan through the various club forums tells you that when a team loses a game the half backs tend to take a lot of stick. Even the great Briers got his fair share ... so what chance Kev Brown.

| I'd blame Chris Sandow as the catalyst for this thread.

Briers did deserve it for a lot of the earlier part of his career, Tony Smith was probably the best thing that could happen to briers. He was inconsistent really, he showed his talents most matches but probably didn't do his talents the justice they deserved, perhaps he just didn't take it seriously enough until Tony Smith showed up and mentioned barrow. I think the last 5 or 6 years were his best for us in terms of consistency, thinking back we were a low risk gamble for Tony Smith, he knew almost all of that squad wasn't performing to its potential and that probably applies to briers most of all.
We have had obvious weak links for a few years now, most have moved on (Evans, Russell) or kicked on (Jack Hughes) a new scapegoat will appear but I really think we are a half with a kicking game away from being the best team on paper for next season, I know that doesn't guarantee anything but surely the buyers and influences at the club should see it that way too.
