| A lot of people who are elderly or have health conditions face serious risks from this disease, so even if you are dismissive about the risks to your own health you should act responsibly and limit contact with others as much as possible to reduce or at least slow down the spread so that the health service has got some capacity to treat those who need it.
In a few weeks time the tone of some of the comments on here will seem in bad taste.

| Quote: lefty goldblatt "More power to your lanlord's elbow, SAM.
The media are worrying us into a frenzy (panic buying, etc). 24 hour news NEEDS something to fill it's schedules with. 2 weeks ago, it was winds and rain. It's coming to something, when the lead item in the news, is the weather. Imagine if London gets an inch of snow?
More people will have died of seasonal 'flu, than of COVID 19, in this country'"
The here and now and the actual death toll from it are pretty irrelevant. We're apparantly two weeks off the hospitals being swamped with those with serious Coronavirus symptoms as is happening now in Italy, that's the worry. As you point out, our country can't cope with snow for a couple of days or a slight shortage of anything. The NHS, god love it, is a shambles bordering on collapse at the best of times. Take away 50% of the staff who might be in isolation or ill and you'd already have an absolute crisis. Throw in 500 people with severe symptoms per hospital and you've got a major, major problem.
The media might sensationalise it, but those talking down the risks and arrogantly going about their usual daily lives and criticising those that don't are potentially causing as much damage as those idiots panic buying toilet roll, soap, bread and frozen food. The experts, even those who support the do-nothing and infect the country as it'll work out better in the long run approach believe A&E and urgent care departments in UK hospitals are going to be horrendous places to be in a couple of weeks. Make sure you don't crash your car, have an accident at work, need ongoing treatment for an existing condition or fall ill from a non-coronavirus illness around then or you might think differently. There's so much arrogance about the perceived weakness of this illness about, but so many to suffer from it. How many have chrones, diabetes, asthma etc? It's not only the very elderly who are going to die here, there are two new born babies with it, which must be a huge concern. We're potentially in for a very odd and unsettling few months. No immediate need for the panic button, but a lot of experts are saying this is something none of us have experienced in our lives and it's going to have a massive impact, particularly over the next few weeks. Maybe not so much the illness itself but the knock on effect it could cause to hospitals and medical care, logistics and shopping and schools and sporting activities will be felt. A lot will lose their jobs too, I know my employer is expecting a really bad couple of months and people will inevitably lose their jobs if the virus spreads as companies and individuals won't be signing up for new products and services or getting work done while it's going on.

| Agree totally with Sally and Saddened, I think there will be very few people whose lives will be untouched in some way over the next few months. But it is too late to bother about making arguments on here now.

| Agree with Sally and Saddened, whilst I'm not in the most at risk demographic my parents are and I don't want to cause the spread to them! Besides people of my age have been killed by it too.
Regarding sky filling the slots, I'd like to suggest wire 40 Leeds 4 from about 2012 to be shown in all available slots, incredible performance by the wire that day. Bbc can fill any slots with last year's challenge Cup final please.

There's the well publicised health risk. There will be a lot of people who's income will either reduce or disappear in the coming weeks. There's the gallows humour associated with any international health affecting event. Thing is, will this be worse than any other year for flu related deaths, in the UK and the rest of the planet? Nobody knows the answer, and we'll have to wait and see how this pans out. No matter what your views, I would think that were all hoping for the best.

| well....everyone seems to have assumed Liverpool will win the league...
If you took the approach some are doing to coronavirus, you would say, we've heard all this hype before when Benitez and Rodgers were there, it always blows over in the end.
Nobody knows how it will end up, Liverpool haven't won the league in 30 years so why would this one be different?

| I'm made up with these extra Sky games, but how long will it be until we cancel games?
I'm not concerned with Corona as it's been well blown out of proportion. Yeah i'm cautious over it but it's being made out to be a lot worse than it actually is.

Perhaps you could explain that to relative of the 10 people who died today.

I went to Morrisons this morning and it felt as though I was the only person not buying toilet rolls, disinfectant, parecetamol and pasta. I haven't felt this left out since I went on that cheap, all inclusive, holiday to Minorca and I was the only one without a tattoo.

Probably explain in the same way that you do when someone dies of cancer, flu related illnesses, in car crashes & the other many various ways that people die on a daily basis.
Nobody should underestimate this virus, BUT it shows a huge hypocrisy how we as a society view death - it happens all the time, all over the world, but we are frequently unmoved by it, simply because it doesn't concern us directly.
Now we are faced with a seemingly new, unstoppable threat, that has many unknowns, people are now pretending they care about people they don't know & in normal circumstances, wouldn't care about.. For all the faux concern for others, it has to be said that the real issue is people's own concern for self. Witness the headless chickens running around supermarkets to see what this is all about... dog eat dog & a simple human survival instinct.
