Nobody ever complained in the old league system that it wasn't fair, yet this conversation is running pages long on lots of boards about how unfair the play offs are and how they are losing interest in the weekly rounds.

is the play-off system floored ? probably yes.

Does the current system devalue the importance of league fixtures? Massively

Would we be discussing it if we had won the grand final? of course not.

If we had won the GF, no, we wouldn't be discussing it.
If Leeds had won the GF from 2nd in the league, no we wouldn't be discussing it.
If Wakefield had won it from 8th, yes we would have been discussing it.

Its not the fact that we lost. Its the position of the GF winner in the league that is important.

My issue is that it is likely to further erode the value of the regular season matches in the eyes of supporters, and I am concerned about ST sales next year. Others feel you shouldn't have a team finishing 5th winning the GF. Personally I think it was a tough series of matches for Leeds to win, so you have to give them credit for it. Plus, everybody knows the rules, regardless of whether they are flawed or not. However, I dont' subscribe to the views on here that it is Warrington 'sour grapes'. All the points in this thread have been argued well, and more importantly with good grace. I think it is highly unlikely that you would get a similar thread on another board where everybody was so polite.
