Quote: The All New Chester Wire "Tories are going to cut waste and bureaucracy. (jobs)'"

Although i hate seeing people lose jobs, surely cutting so many administration jobs in the NHS (i don't claim to know much on this) is a good thing if the money is being redistributed to worthier areas ?

Sometimes losing jobs is the greater good surely ?

Quote: getdownmonkeyman "So it isn't the Brown led recession that is the issue. It is selling the gold prior to a peak that is the issue. It must be to finance the decimated hospital and schools stock. But no, it will need paying back over a twenty five year period that is totally unsustainable. I'll tell you what, we'll keep the gold and retain the NHS, education and housing stock.'"

Brown is the total issue - his hand has been over every financial decision made by the Labour party in the last 13 years .............. amd we now have a country that is busted.

Quote: paw81 "This is what annoys me about the Tories. Honestly do you think we are all stupid?? Money has to come from somewhere and something has to give. What are the tories proposing then???'"

actually, yes they do. all political parties think the electorate are stupid!

Quote: paw81 "If you focused on telling people what you would do right rarther than just pointing out what Labour may have got wrong, you would have a much better chance of winning over undecided voters.'"

the tories currently say increasing NI is a bad thing, leading businesmen say the same thing, even the owner of a business who brown visited today for a photo-op was cagey when the subject was brought up (there's a link on the guardian website if you care), labour say the tories have got it wrong.

elections aren't won on positive actions, they're lost by the ones in power outstaying their welcome.

Sometimes losing jobs is the greater good???! Tell those who lose their jobs.

I love the Tories (and these wonderful business leaders) who criticise the NI increase as threatening jobs, but they are happy to throw so called bureaucrats on the scrapheap. Won't their unemployment also stop the recovery?

ok say you run a business with 10 people but are only bringing in enough to pay 6.

Do you

a) get rid of 4 people and save 6 peoples jobs
b) keep trading, eventually go under and lose 10 jobs

so yes, greater good

Quote: The All New Chester Wire "Because the service sector could have grown so much that manufacturing would have decreased as a percentage of overall national wealth, but by how much you can't tell from the percentages.'"

again, what does it matter, the issue was we were in a recession and the last ones out of it due to the tories/service industry, this article points out the rise of the service industry under the labour party.

Jobs in the private sector generate the money to provide public services - when the size of the public sector exceeds the amount the private sector can generate to service it what do you suggest then?

No idea what you mean. I thought the article was supposed to show the decimation of manufacturing industry under Labour.

They both feed off each other. Not all jobs in the private sector create wealth.

Care to provide an example apart from an organisation not for profit?

Thatcher did that - it's been a disaster.

So a garage does work at cost and the person who owns it doesn't pay themselves? Are you sure??

Last time I checked there was nearly 100 execs backing the tory policy on NI, from Sir Stuart Rose to Richard Branson
