Not sure why you keep bringing up a football manager from donkeys years ago, the hairdryer treatment may have worked then, times have changed. Aston has a system, which he used at Salford, he simply needed players to work in the system. Powell,no idea what his system is, if he has one. Look back 12 months, his teams have hardly won a game, at Cas and now here. Losing is a habit, he does not know how to get a team to win consistently.
The club should let him go now, we couldn't do any worse could we?

This is certainly the largest player movement of any club in the SL era, but you have to question was it really necessary, given where it currently leaves us.
There's only 1 stat/track record that matters now, were 4 points off the bottom. I doubt the board being willing to give DP time should we look to be heading even more towards the championship, no matter what his track record at other clubs was, as that becomes irrelevant.'"
It's some people comparing Powell's stats this season, during a total rebuild with other coaches coaching mainly settled squads with a low to medium turn over.
I certainly will persist and will highlight stupid comparisons.

He's had more than his fair crack, he's blown it. And the club.

| It's an emotional time and there is already a Powell Out thread so although it's probably too late to salvage the integrity of this thread can we please keep on topic.
Last night's performance was a disappointing cocktail of somnambulism and indiscipline from the team and coaching staff. I really thought that we'd be picking up the two points as we had a decent start but typical of recent Wire performances we didn't manage to kill the opposition off and Hull KR as every other team knows stay in the game we'll get chances and Warrington will crumble.
I'm not going to bag any individual performances, KR certainly had an effective high bomb kicking game, but to go from forcing a drop out to conceding a try in the blink of an eye is unforgivable. There was also a PTB in the second half on our 40 where we went down the blind side with a three on two, great unless he 5 players are in 10 yards of space on a pitch that would befit John Noakes taking a London Double Decker bus skid pan test. Mikey Lewis limping heavily with a bright white bandaged foot (the lad could hardly stand) might have expected a kick return and a good hiding, but oh no our KO went to the other corner so he could test his injury out for a bit then hobble off to the away speccies applause. Guess where the next kick off went.......
Poor poor poor, a litany of bad decision making on and off the pitch especially on the none selection of Wrench and Nicholson to the point where i'm seriously coming round to the view that something really is wrong in the state of Denmark .

The point is, once again Wolf Hall, that managers need time and at top clubs, are given time mostly - at some point this might sink in.
Regarding pros and cons of Powell, it's personal opinion. I totally get why some people want him out.

| We have played 4 teams riddled with injuries in succession and managed one win when it should have been at least 3. Teams see us as soft and as long as they are within 20 points will see a game against us as winnable. I have no idea why this is happening but it’s just not acceptable.
Our decision making has disappeared completely and we appear to have no shape or structure. I’m genuinely baffled by what’s going on, not seen anything like this in over 40 years of watching us. On paper we should be winning so many more games

| His continued selection of players who have been garbage all season,Holmes and Mata just to name two does not inspire confidence for next season. This is now a game of survival as the next two games are cert defeats but never have I wanted a season to be over so quickly with half dozen matches still to play and I never said them words under Price for all his failures.

| The sad thing is, even at 14-0 I knew we were not going to be comfortable, and after them making it 14 -12 I knew it was only going one way, even after we made it 22-12, I knew.

It’s not really a stupid comparison is it though. Other than the fact that Smith inherited an awful club with a terrible squad, it’s actually quite accurate. If you weren’t too busy throwing toys out of your pram, you would have noticed the similarities.
Smith has brought in 34 new players in his time, only retaining 3 (Dagger, Crooks, Keinhorst). Kept them up in his first half season, then an awful 2020, only to make the playoffs and set them on track to do the same in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
2019 is almost akin to Powell’s 7month head start on pre-season belt being appointed early and controlling the recruitment since that point.
The difference being, Smith had to shop at the bargain retailers, where as Powell has an open cheque book and a starting position of 3rd in the competition. The parallels are there, quite overtly, so you can leave out the ‘stupid’ stuff in future, you’ll only embarrass yourself.

Does make me think, do we need to turn to Union tactics if we get a 14 point lead again? Get close DG, get close DG. It'll be boring, it'll be negative, but Powell is constantly saying that we can't manage the game out, we're bottlers in the last quarter. Maybe we just need to keep chipping away at the scoreboard once we get 2 tries+ ahead.
God, i can't believe I've got to this stage.

| This a good point and fair play, but many are comparing Powell's win stats with managers who've had much longer periods at the helm with no-where near the same upheaval.
Also, a major point you've missed, is that Hull KR are generally a more unsettled club with more flirtations with the championship so they're 'culture' by way of nature is more unsettled. Smith wasn't going in to change the culture.
We've had a deep rot at our club for years, reflected by our numerous bottle jobs despite being the biggest spenders.
Powell is tasked with a much larger challenge, given that's he's not only swapping the whole squad, but attemlting to de-rot the entrenchment of complacently.
