Ahhh, the days before Super League came and almost every team decided to append a type of animal to their name.

Will the Wire name die out?

Not having sprogs of my own yet and thus not talking to any of the younger generation I am just wondering if they are using the 'Wire' name or the 'Wolves' tag?

Anyone have any insight?

For those of us who are slightly more mature in years it will always be the Wire. I notice that Warrington Town have now taken up the nickname, bloody cheek.

Don't know, but the younger generation certainly don't like Worther's Originals, and they like rubbish music with all bleeps in it, and lots of swearing in it.

All of my brood have been told to refer to them as the Wire !

As an aside my Great Grandfather was a wire puller.

With our massive links in the pass to the Greenalls family and with the amount of breweries that were once in the town and surrounding area. That the nickname was never Brewers.

I think they have always had that nickname as well. Could be wrong though.

Good chance the nickname will die out for them though - all it takes is for all 3 of their fans to die in a hotair balloon accident.

Except Wigan and Saints. Oh and Salford.







And Huddersfield.
