No doubt Gleeson is a talented player but whether he is the type of signing that is right for Hull at present I'm not sure.
The Hull squad is not short of talent: Yeaman, O'Meley, Fitzgibbon, Horne, Long, Tickle, Westerman, etc but looking from the outside in there is something missing to make it click. I'd look at Warrington a couple of years back and there are similarities with the current Hull team - under achieving.
Three major changes Warrington made that would seem to have been catalysts in the culture change at the club (and I concede that number 1 is the key change):
1. Tony Smith took over;
2. Within a couple of weeks Gleeson was gone; and
3. Richie Mathers joined the club.
I said when he was available that I thought Hull should have gone for Mathers (the Costa Club doesn't seem to have done Castleford any harm as a team/squad) and there is no doubt that it appears you need a change of coach yet Hull has gone out and reversed number 2.
The thought of Long and Gleeson pairing up together away from their domestic base should send shivers done the spine of any right-minded Hull fan; add in Tickle and Westerman and it seems a disaster waiting to happen.
