| heard that rumour a few weeks ago. the lad needs to move on, he's obviously not in Smithies plans as he hasn't played for the 1st team all season, plus he must be on a decent wedge, so will free up space on the salary cap

| Gutted for Kev.
That said, given the salary cap restraints in place, you have to be smart with your £1.65m and I'm sure every penny has to be spent well, with every purchase well thought out.
If Che thinks there's better value out there £££ for £££, then I'll back his judgement.
He'll do well for his next employer. He was a breath of fresh air for Quins, and for a side that perhaps don't have the same ambition as ourselves and perhaps don't have the same critical eyes on him.

| Unfortunately I agree JWP.
I'm disappointed that Smith thinks he can't 'turn him round'.
IMO the salary cap should now increase by about 100-200k because it's been at 1.65M for a long long time and it just means the players salaries get squeezed - it's not like their on football players contracts.

I thought it was increased every year at the rate of inflation?

no, thats one of the complaints, even that hasn't occured, save for a bit of tinkering due to under 20's players and NI contributions, its stayed at 1.65(1. mill.

| personally i thought he looked the real deal at quins really sparked his team up with entusiasm , shame he cudnt do it on a regular basis for the wolves because he really did have some big moments in a wire shirt, can imagine him being on a fortune at club after that breakthrough season when he made the great britain train on squad, but as some of you have mentioned it will free up some valuable cash on the cap

| Sorry to see him go, but at least he'll get one more year at the Super League big time with the Wildcats before going into the Championship.

| I just hope that Kear stays at the Wildcats if Kevins going there because he's a coach that could really work well with Kevin. Having said that I'll be so sad to see the lad leave. Given the right breaks I'm convinced that he could be a major star in the game.

| When Penny and Riley came through at the same time there was probably only ever going to be room for one of them in the team with Hicks being at the club (and being the type of player who never gets injured). I used to think Penny was the one with pace and flair and Riley would be the steady eddie a la Dean Gaskell, so Penny was worth persevering with as the rough diamond who needed polishing up. Unfortunately for Penny, Riley turned out to be a good finisher as well and so it became hard to make the case for Penny over Riley.
I do think Penny is an SL player but he's probably going to struggle to get established at a top club because weak links get targeted and he would immediately be a target if we put him in the first team. At some clubs lower down the table the spotlight would be less intense, so he will have more of a chance to tighten up his game. I hope he goes well, he was certainly the most exciting young player that came out of our Academy for years. He gave us a lot of memories in the 2007 season.

| Rather than start a new thread as i planned. Would like to say congratulations to the Evans brothers for helping the under 21 team to win the league.
According to the reports it apparently totally down to them thus year, so credit where its deserved.
