I read between the lines of Eddies suggestion. I think he knows that Briers has been poor for sometime by his standards and suggested that the captaincy would lift him to perform like he did tonight regularly.
I agree with Harris though.

Briers had a very good game tonight. Churlish to argue otherwise. We rely on him.

Taking nothing away from your win, but nobody played world-class. Your players looked so good because we were so utterly and disgracefully appalling.

Why is it that a couple of seasons ago people were moaning that we couldn't beat S**t teams and now that we have put 58 points past a s**t team, they complain that we were only playing Bradford and should have done better.

Exactly. I put a big post on here recently stating that I think he'll get a new deal, and under Smith, Briers will have an Indian Summer, Sean Long style, where he'll change his game slughtly and get us around the field. If Briers could find this level consitantly, you wouldn't even look for a new halfback, it's Briers+1.

He was involved in everything, must have got at least 5 try assists tonight, awesome.

He controlled the game tonight and created more than Monas and Bridge did in two games over the easter holidays

I'm not being negative or anything like that, I'm delighted with Lee's performance, and the team's performance, too. But I don't get overly excited by one game and bring out the 'world class' phrases and so on. Let's hope we finally pick ourselves up now and develop some kind of good consistency in our performances; what better way to start?

It was a very good performance from Briers....However, its fair to say his whole Wire career has been littered with displays like this, and more often than not he follows it up with an annoymous performance in a match where he actually has to produce the goods in order for Wire to be successful.

I'd love to be proved wrong, but I don't see how this performance holds any more significance in Briers' future.

Bit like the tale of 'Cry Wolf'...
