Tony Smith is a very good coach but no way could he have done what Madge did with Wigan during that first season.
On 'homegrown players' We have 12 in our 19 man squad Wire have 6 in theirs. Although over recent years Wire have improved massively in the development of their younger players IMO.
Can't wait for the game tonight, should be very tight, can't call it!

We had one the previous week. Madge made you a more consistent team, you had made the previous three grand final eliminators, he just took you the next step. Tony Smith took over a very underachieving Leeds team and turned them into double grand final winners with a team containing many players who came through the Leeds youth set-up. Tony Smith took over a team of underachievers at Wire. As far as I can remember Tony Smith has signed Mathers, Solomona, Atkins, Myler, Hodgson and Joel Monaghan. In the same time frame Wigan have brought in Gleeson, Deacon, Lima, Hoffman, Finch. Not much difference their to be honest.

That's the point though, Tony Smith took a team from ninth or wherever it was to 3rd and to repeat as challenge cup winners. Madge took you from grand final eliminator to grand final winners. Not that big a step. Both are great coaches and both set's of fans are happy with what they have at the minute. Let's leave it there. |

So you could argue a strong case that Warrington have seen a greater improvement under Smith than Wigan have under 'madge'. |
