I have just read all 9 pages of this topic, and am kind of dismayed at how its gone from a celebration and mutual backslap to having a go at the negatives of the game and ref decisions! Last nights game was by far the best game I have seen this season, it had everything! To think it was raining so much as well is incredible.....great passes, big hits, some niggles, great kicks, and yes even the negatives played their part in making the game a spectacle! Rugby league is ultimately the winner from last nights game, we must have some new converts after witnessing that game!!! Both teams deserve applause, Warrington for the win, and desire to win....and St Helens for their tenacity, and will to win!!!! Something had to give so congratulations to Warrington, but also congrats to St Helens in their contribution!!!! I just hope our game tonight can be somewhere near as good and entertaining as last night!!!

Cracking game, great entertainment, a credit to both teams in those conditions. eusa_clap.gif

Quote: jdrocket "Having read all nine pages, my input;

Firstly, how great it feels to be there to see Saints squirm. I have waited a very long time to see that and I ave never seen Wire get the double over sts. Pheww what a night.

Secondly, it was also a great match. A lot of back and forth and was probably, in tersm of emotion and atmosphere, the greatest match I have veer been to.

In terms of refereeing decision on both video referee calls for Warrington (strange how silverspud was so confident of sts tries (Roby knock on)) I initially thought I was seeing a no try. I don't know whether that was pessimism. However, after a few viewings I was confident both would be given. Brett's no knock on for a couple of shots looked 50/50 but when slowed down was as clear as day going backwards (and not being stepped over) Also the Meli fumble; sorry he went for Bridge and chose wrong. He even has the time to grab Brett while he is crossing the line. He could have easily had a go at knocking the ball out of his hands. So that covers Smith. Silverwood had a shocker. HE missed a lot and the amount of lying on he allowed was comical. I would really not like it if he refs these two teams again. AS a final note on refereeing performance, does Meli know what onside means? Cause he was never there.

Paul I also thought that when I saw it at the match. In fact there were a lot of refereeing mistakes that led to Saints tries. I think I counted three which shouldn't have been given (2 in the first and the knock on in the 2nd)

Overall I am glad we cam away with a win especially after such a dire 20 mins against the 14 men of saints. But to be fair we deserved a reality check for not completing sets in the second quarter. Some of the mistakes were just shocking from WArrington. Luckily we have the team and probably (I am assuming he had some choice words for them) the coach to beat anyone and be the real deal.

ISWT and congratulations Wire fans. Too many years of hurt gone!'"

Correct, I am sick of seeing poor defensive reads penalised as obstruction.

I wouldn't say that. Three consecutive penalties in our 10m was more than generous.

Penalties that quick in succession undermine play of the team receiving them. One penalty a set of six is good, it continues momentum. To have a set disrupted by so many penalties hinders momentum. So no, it wasn't generous.

Three consecutive penalties on our line. 13-12 doesn't mean squat, where and when, ie; middle of the field with twenty seconds to go. Face it; for whatever reason Richie has a soft spot for you.

I would have thought it would be more disruptive to the defending team. You are set on your line, readying yourselves, peep, faces of bemusement. And so-on and so-forth. Now you have in your mind you are trying to focus on the attacking team, whilst wondering if the ref will blow up. The opposition are constantly starting from the first tackle, afforded the opportunity to try a differing starting set. I fail to see how it is disruptive, no momentum is lost as the attack is as far up the field as possible where the defence is having to amass further, unwanted, tackles.

Completely agree. SaintsFan is talking nonsense on this one. I have never heard any attacking team complain about getting a penalty!

On the red button after the match Simmons complained that Saints' penalties weren't as good as the ones Warrington were given.

One penalty - great. A series of them in quick succession allows no momentum in attack.

It is far more demoalising to the defence to know that the tackle you have just scrambled to complete on your line now counts for nothing. If that happens two and three times on the bounce it can be extremely frustrating. The attack have lost nothing and have actually wasted more of the opposition's energy.

That doesn't change the fact that repeated stops interrupt momentum. That is so very obvious.

So obvious that you are the only person i have ever heard moan about receiving penalties. Awesome.
