I bet he was complaining about HKR holding down & of course being Captain it's his job to complain so he has an excuse. They really got away with a lot & should have had someone in the bid for persistent offending ... we, of course, were angels.
Once more the six-again rule was used a lot on the first tackle. It is being abused and I think we need more penalties given even if it does slow down the game a bit.

| Any six again infringement should be a penalty if it’s in the first two/three tackles of a set. Or even better let’s just get rid of the stupid rule altogether.

Your captain is the only player who can question a referees decision, so yes Ratchford had that right on Friday, and could do so at his discretion. However, there's a time and a place to do it. If it's done during a break in play, then fine, but while the ball is in play then no, as first and foremost a captain (like all players) should be concentrating on the game.
This six again rule given on the first tackle really is way too prevalent, and it makes me wonder if a referee is more likely to enforce the rule early in the tackle count, rather than at the end of a set of six.

It’s a rule that seriously needs to be looked at in the off season at the very least. When it’s the 1st tackle it’s only benefiting the defensive side as it’s giving them time to set their line.

Why not just say that the 6 again rule can be used in the defending teams half if the defending team transgresses. If in the attacking teams half its a penalty to give full benefit of yardage gain with a kick to touch.

Teams would sometimes want a penalty in the opposition half too ... to have the option of a kick at goal.

| What was wrong with the penalty for slowing the ptb?

I reckon the idea was that the full penalty slowed the game up ... but as normally happens teams cheat & take advantage of ill thought out laws. I suppose attacking sides might sometimes like six again when they've got a roll on.

I have always thought that Ratchford is best when making space for himself & is better in a role of being able to crop up anywhere in attack instead of being shoe horned into a particular slot.'"
He’d be better out the team not right centre. Wrench has to walk into this team when fit.

In my view awarding another six tackles at the point of infringement is nowhere near as punitive as a penalty which is either a chance of two points or another set of six tackles 30 odd yards down the field. So in effect the rule change has removed a big disincentive to slowing the play the ball therefore, as mentioned, teams are gaming the rule.

I’d go further W71 I think it actively encourages holding down early in the tackle count. Teams appear to be coached accordingly…without exception…just some are better at not getting caught …

You would like to think if us mere fans can see this so can the RFL and do something about it.

| If we keep the set restart, then why not have the ref march the offending team back 20m instead of 10m?
If the offence is made inside the offending teams half, then it becomes a full penalty, with the option to kick for 2.
