I’d say about the same.
I’m looking forward to seeing Jason Clark next year. He can play across the pack and is a work horse. Sam Burgess described him as one of the best teammates he’s ever had once. Souths fans even set up a petition to keep him.
Also the lad from London will be coming in but I’m guessing he’ll be a filler for when Currie, Murdoch-Massila and Livett are not all available.
I’m more impressed with Cooper this season. Playing under a coach who got the best out of him in his very respectable stint in the NRL has done him good. I’m very impressed with Philbin, there’s a good career player for us there and he’s getting more powerful and has good pace (something we’ve hugely lacked in the forwards for a bit). Filling in well for what we missed when we lost Harrison (very underrated player, as was Grix!)
I’d just feel better with a more powerful tackle buster in the front row as well.

| Our pack would be much better if somebody had a little nibble of Chris Hill's wrist before every match. After he was 'bitten' against Hull earlier this season, he was a complete monster for about 20 minutes, changed the game.

Were the voices right on this in the end duckie....?
Or was our pack the reason Patton and our halves weren't able to shine and the reason we got beat up in the big games....

| Dom Crosby, George King and Sitaleki were not good enough as the interchange options and we had to rely on short bursts of Westwood and Philbin to give us a bit of momentum. So no, we were not strong enough in the pack and lucked out with few injuries.

I think George Kings finest hour was over the last 2 months of the season and arguably the best prop.
Had he had shown that form before we went looking for a replacement he would very likely still be here.

| Quote: The Railwayman "Hughes is not centre but sacrificed his own game last year for the good for the team so it would seem. I am prepared to give him a clean slate and see how he goes in his preferred / better position is what is hopefully a better team effort this season coming.
Regarding 'grunt' BMM showed some yesterday as well as some real class with a couple of off loads one of which led tot a try. A great buy.
Coops put in a good shift but I would like to see him eat a couple of Welsh Oggies and beef up a touch
One of the pleasing aspects of yesterdays game was the defence. Yes we were not necessarily playing against the most dynamic attack we will see in 2018 but to concede only one try and a fortuitous one at that was a good effort. In attack we were missing possibly our two most creative players in Roberts and Patton so improvements to come there
Lot more optimistic for the season that at the same stage last year after the dreadful Huddersfield performance.'"
A post of reason....

Hughes is not, repeat NOT, a scapegoat.
Hughes is simply not good enough, for where we want to be. The same goes for that plant pot on the wing, Russell. I'm fully aware we can't have a team full of stars, but Hughes' career plateaued after a decent start in Wire colours, since that plateau, it's regressed. Last season, he was a walking accident. Not good enough. He's at Widnes' level, now.
I'd rather promote a younger lad.
Harsh, maybe. But true.
We've already got a "near as damn it passenger" in Westwood for the upcoming season. We can't afford another.
Westwood is now at the level where Yaya Toure is at City. A legend for what he's done, but it's time to stop embarrassing yourself, and tarnishing your reputation.
Add to this, Crosby's form/state of mind, and Cooper's horrific 2017 season, I've a few worries for our pack, this season. I really hope I'm proved wrong.'"
Oh dear....

I expect a top 6-8 finish and a decent cup run....more than that is a bonus IMO....we are building again....heading in the right direction....but I really don't expect us to make the top 4 or a final....because we are still short of enough top class players to achieve that IMO. Hope i am wrong.'"
Ouch....
Don't give me any of your tips.

Well done in trawling past posts to prove a point. All players mentioned pinched a living, that year
Hughes stunk the house out in 17. Am I wrong. No.
Still under contract, he upped his game, and improved. Well done Hughes. I'm a Wire fan. I want him to do well
Likewise Westwood
Getting by on a year by year deal, he had his best year since 2013.
Likewise Cooper's rubbish from 17, He upped his game, too.
Instead of raking up old posts with an I told you so attitude, get in your cab, eh. Are the ranks quiet?

| Why get so upset when your past predictions are pointed out to you....
Plenty of mine turned out to be ballsocks.
I can't be bothered searching through all my past posts but I remember a few:
- I was a sceptic of appointing Steve Price, thought he was a poor choice with a failure behind him at St George and would struggle here.
- Not sure if I posted this thought on the forum, but I didn't think we should have kept Westwood on for 2018. For what its worth, I also wouldn't have kept him next year either.
- I predicted we would finish 6th in 2018 and not make any finals.
- I thought our pack was not up to it, hence this thread before last season. Like lefty I had Hughes down in the category of players like Russell and Westerman who hadn't delivered what we hoped. I thought the same of Lineham too...
- I was a big fan of Kevin Brown at Widnes and was pleased when we signed him, thought he would be one of the better players in SL during his time with us.
Safe to assume if you read any prediction from me that it's not worth putting money on.

| Useful insight into how tough the coaching lark can be...our predictions have no impact whatsoever, the coach predicts which players will do well and stakes his career on it.
Hopefully no one on here takes themselves too seriously.

There was no I told you so from me.
Sally started it so I thought it to be an interesting reflect of the season to see our initial thoughts early season.
Nothing wrong with a player proving us wrong....in fact that's everything right about it.
