I'm with FB. Tony Smith until the end of 2016 is a great boost.
As for Agar? I'll take Smiths opinions & views.

| Oh well, having "lived" through the Anderson/Plange, Dorahy/Murphy & Lowes periods ( if that is the current term in rugby terms, it actually felt like death ) I don't suppose the appointment of Agar is a nostradamus-like glimpse of impending doom, but I'm going to take some convincing.
I just hope the players are a bit more positive about the news than us.

I remember in 2012 getting the train from Hull to Wakey and getting talking to a trin fan, who I shared a taxi to Belle Vue with.
This bloke was pally with Agar and every week played squash with him and Smith, with Warrington players often coming along. So I guess they are already well acquainted.

| He's not the head coach, so that's fine with me.
I guess also being a Roosters fan and having to endure McBanana as assistant to Trent, I guess it wouldn't be the norm without someone of his ilk becoming assistant at Warrington.

You mentioned the name Anderson and I got the shakes as I read it. Agar didn't do all that well at Hull, but then again, neither has anyone else apart from john Kear in the past 15 years. I think their problems go far deeper than the coach. Many have tried, most have failed miserably. He built a reasonable side at Wakefield and it wasn't his fault they kept doing their best to go bust. I'll go with Smith's judgement.

| I don't quite get all the negativity - Its pretty simple really.
Tony Smith has 2 full seasons as Head Coach, with Agar has his senior first team coach..... Agar will, I presume, be very hands-on with the players, building relationships and bringing in some of his own ideas.
Now, if those two seasons are successful, then imagine how Agar's stock will rise with both the players and the fans? - He will be the obvious successor to Smith, all this talk of him not being good enough will be laughable, and we will have a silky-smooth succession to Smith's throne.
If the opposite happens, and our form tails off and we end up trophyless, with little sign of any forthcoming glory, then Agar will be simply ushered out with little fuss and Plan B (of which, I have little doubt, there will be one), will be put into place.
The more I see our season unfold, the more I'm convinced that Smith and Simon Moran have a very smart long term plan in place, both with regards to the playing and coaching side of things.

In Smith & Mr Moran we trust.

| If Agar is so good at spotting talent, then this should be a great move for us. Other than Hill (and maybe England in time), our strategy now is bringing in big-name players who don't require much in the way of spotting, and even then they don't always meet our expectations...

Hill was never really the enigma many think. He was outstanding in 2010/11 and there was plenty of interest in him from other clubs.

| Wonder whether we encouraged him to stand down? Wouldn't have looked good if Trin were relegated under his watch then it was announced he would be moving here.

| It doesn't look good now, just based off his track record.
I saw some dingbat on Twitter last night saying wire fans shouldn't get oit knickers in a twist, after all we took Cullen on and agar is miles and miles better than that.

| I quite happy with this. We still have the best coach in Superleague for an extra 2 years, we've been so close to winning the big one and it would be brilliant to see him finish what he started before he goes.
As for Agar, presumably by the end of this 2 years we will all know whether he is up to the job or not. If Smith had been going at the end of the season with Agar replacing him...then I would've been seriously urined off.

Pretty much my thoughts. He comes in as Smith's number 2, ignore the 'First Team Coach' title he has - Poaching had the same I think and is just a left over from when we brought in Smith to work above Lowes. It will be Smith's team, his recruitment, his training techniques, his tactics. Agar will I'm sure discuss with Smith new ways of doing things, if Smith likes them great, if not we carry on as we are.
There is also no official comment from the club or Smith that Agar is being groomed to be Smiths replacement. I think TS is very happy at Warrington and especially working for Simon Moran. I expect Smith will see out this contract then sign another one, the challenge of constantly keeping a side at the competition is a huge one, and I doubt Smith would get anything like the board level support he gets at Wire anywhere else.
What we have now is a very experienced no. 2, with hopefully Monas to come in as well - whats wrong with that?

| There was an article in the League Weekly a few months back about all the planning for the future Smith and Moran are doing. I couldn't think of two better people to steer us onwards and upwards, I can't see the good times ending anytime soon.
