for example, i hold a BRITISH passport, i consider myself english, however my grandparents are very much irish, and if i ever played sport, and was overlooked by england, and asked to play for ireland, i am well within my rights to, and would jump at the oppurtunity, as would most people. foster, lomax and marsh, have no russian connections(as far as im aware) and in that sense them playing for russia would be wrong.
however the rules are that if you have family, parents/grandparents etc, that are from another country, you are eligible for that country!'"

Manu was eligible cause he lives here. If those three players were rejected from the england set up and chose to live in Russia and play there they could join the national team. It is a frace.
And if my parents were abroad when i was delivered I wouold probably be the nationality of where i was born if they then chose to live there but if they returned back to their home country i would then become that nationality. I am certianly not calling for a dictatorship just a bit of common sense.
The point is though that Pat richards was born in Australia and NEVER lived in Ireland and yet because his parents were born in Ireland (they obviuosly moved to Australia quite young) he is eligible.
and i would say when it comes to the national team you have to pick. You can't play for both Australia and Ireland cause you have a bit of both in you. He must pick and there is a whole lot more evidence for him being Australian.

Pat Richards is an Australian who plays for Ireland because he's not good enough to even be considered by Australia.

| Disappointed to see this thread has descended into how Irish Pat "potata-hata" Richards is. Can we get back to dog-worrying please?

| I would love it if we signed him... excellent australian winger in his prime... it would be a first for super league... cant see it though.
Here's hoping greg inglis gets photographed sh*gging the family goat.

Would it not be another occasion of Super League doing itself no favours with it's image though. Regardless of what he's done, if he's been deregistered from the NRL, so should he be allowed to play over here? If he's just been sacked from his club then fair enough but if your banned from playing in the NRL?

has he been banned though?
I thought he had walked away from his contract to save the club and the sponsors any further embarrassment.

Thought there were rumours of the NRL deregistering him. As I say though if its just his club that has sacked him then its fair enough, but if he was that good why wouldn't another NRL club pick him up if they could? Saying that they might still do that.

| For me, whoever scoops him up are gonna get a great deal! And if it is us, there's no shortage of dogs in this town which should keep him a happy chappy! I'm still trying to find out about the exact quota/overseas ruling though...

He's allowed three pedigrees but no Chow, Akitas or Spitz. I think Shih Tzus are off the list now...

I think we are allowed 5 players from aus
5 players overseas trained players including those above.
But now i am confused cause i can think of more than 5 right now.
Monas, Hicks, King, Hodgeson, Solomona, L. Anderson.

| Well just had a quick look at the RFL rules and it states a maximum of 5 overseas players, but I believe Solomona gets away with it on relaxed restrictions. And therefore, we are at the quota limit! But that's how I read it and no doubt somewhere another rule contradicts it...?

yep i think it is conclusive unless we get rid of hicks then we aren't gonna get hold of him. if only if only next year.

| I think the rule is 5 overseas quota and 5 overseas trained. Anderson and solomona both count as overseas trained. Which leaves us with hicks, king, hodgson, monaghan as quota players. Meaning we have one space left
